I have two questions about Swedish Mauser's bolts.

Can anyone tell me where In Canada I can buy an aftermarket Low Swing Safety for a Model 1894 Swedish Mauser Carbine?

Also would the Low Swing Safety that would fit in an Model 1894 Swedish Mauser Carbine also fit in a Model 1896 Swedish Mauser Rifle, In other words do the two models have the same bolt?

Thanks.

The bolt bodies are different in that the 94 had a turned down handle and the 96 has a straight handle. Very much interchangeable. The bolt shroud and the safety - which affect choice of a "low swing", are listed with identical part numbers for 94 and 96.

Timney used to make a firing pin safety for them. I've installed a couple. Dont know if they still do or not. It worked quite well. - dan

Thank you Potashminer that was the exact answer to one of my questions. That is what I thought the difference was but I wasn't sure.

You may want to install the Dayton kit that allows cocking on opening as well if you're doing the job anyway. I still see them advertised occasionally. Google will give you that information,

Ellwood epps in Ontario has the timney low swing safety. I have installed many of them, they work great and are easy to install.

If you are looking for a Low Swing safety for a 1894 carbine, because you intend to mount a scope on it, be aware that the scope will need to be mounted very high - I made the mistake of assuming that I could grind some metal off the curved down bolt handle, but not even close to clear the eyepiece on a "sensibly" low mounted scope. I ended up getting a couple "sporter" bolts from TradeEx - the bolt handles had been cut off and re-welded in normal mauser sporter fashion. Headspace actually checked out perfectly with the replacement bolt.
