Swedish Mauser cocks on opening conversion

x2 against it.
with so many modifications that were performed on those actions, not a single time did Paul (Mauser that is) came with a contraption like this.

There must have been a reason....

Then why did 'Paul Mauser' design the '98 as a #### on opening. Why are all commercial actions this way. Because it's better, mostly due to shorter lock time. Most gunshops should be able to get you a Traister #### on opening kit. Takes a bit of work to put it on but is worth the cost. The kits that I got included a new spring, cocking piece and trigger. I put the last one I had on my grandson's rifle. With the shorter lock and better trigger it turned his deer rifle into a gopher shooter. Just my opinion,Mark

Initially, I always heard that "#### on opening" is better because it is faster
to lock up.

But there is at least one arguement for "#### on closing". With stretched cases or dirty conditions (trench-warfare), #### on close action will open faster and easier as there is no additional force needed to open the bolt that a "c-o-o" has.
(You handloaders may agree or disagree with that argument)

I have a M96 which is c-o-c. And the only time I find it hard to close is when I'm shooting it prone...but its a target rifle so thats OK.

In the end it is your choice...
