Hello,

With the Pram, Soderin, and Elit diopters, does this allow the M96 to be zeroed at distances besides the standard 300m zero that the rifle was zeroed at with the original rear sight?

If so, what is the closest distance that these diopters allow you to zero at? And also, which of the 3 are considered the least obtrusive and easiest to use? Would they allow one to hunt effectively and shoot groups on paper? And is it possible to adjust the aperture size?

There are also the Helquist, GF, Busk, Faldt and Hauges diopter sights.

Most Swedish shooters rate the Elit, Hauges, Soderin and Pramm sights as the best for target practice. Most of these will adjust to 200 meters.

The most compact are the Faldt and GF sights. The Faldt is probably the easiest to use. All these sights usually have various sized apertures that can be replaced for larger or smaller hole sizes.

Hunting and range work are two different things. Usually range rifles have target type tunnel front sights and larger rear diopter sights with big knobs. A hunting rifle is probably better with a post type front sight and a much larger aperture hole for quick shots and getting on the game. There is no one-size-fits-all diopter except maybe the Faldt.

There are also open rear sights such as the Vasteras micrometer type. These are very easy to install, about 5 minutes maximum with a screwdriver, and you do not have to remove your rear sight. The Model 1 Vasteras will give a minimum of 200-700 meters and the Model 2 will give 100-700 meters range capability. These are much cheaper and do not require gunsmithing.
