Swedish Mauser scope mount...

I am sure you could find one already done if you posted on the E&E, there were allot made years back. But generally its $15 to $20 per hole sometimes a set up fee.

Swedish scope mount

Please don't buba your fine old rifle. instead slap a S & K scout mount on it. Get a low power fixed magnification long eye relief scope like a NC Star or if ya got the bucks a leapold and call it done. No screwing around with the bolt or drilling and tapping and you can do it yourself. Mount is around $80.00 + - the scope from $40.00 to the sky. I did my 1899 Carl two years ago for a total of $130.00 cnd has held zero for over 100 rounds at the range and I took my first buck with it two weeks ago. Good luck with it.

+1 on please don't bubba a fine old original M38 Swede.... There are enough around that have already been drilled & tapped. Why not keep yours stock and pick up one already drilled & tapped for scoping?

NAA.

I'm with the "don't bubba it" crowd. The Swede is a collectable and if it's in its original condition it's worth one hell of a lot more than a bubbad one. I put the S&K mount on mine with an NC Star long eye relief scope on mine and it'll drive nails a long way out. It just fits over the leaf site assembly and is very inexpensive. Google S&K mounts. They operate out of Pennsylvania and are really helpful.

It is your rifle and you can do with it as you wish, but please don't touch the wood or metal on this rifle. They are not made anymore.

And making sporters out of them is an expensive, and is seldom something that works out well in the end.

Sell it or keep it intact and save for a nice Tikka in 6.5x55, or one already already commercially modified in Sweden on the tradex site.

But I heard some drill and tap jobs were better than others back in the day...

Just here say.

You mean $200 for just the drill and tap?
No. I also mean cutting off the original bolt handle, welding a new one on and new safety installation. Cutting off and installing a new bolt handle is the best way. Forging a handle can and will ruin the bolt body if done incorrectly.

Have to agree with the others. Find one already done. Much cheaper and sell your nice M38. I own both types and wouldn't dream of putting the torch to my original M38.
