I have Swede CG 1907 action small ring Mauser. If I tighten action screws tight (not too tight) I loose second stage trigger feel to it. Just a creep till it brakes. If I loseen up action screws to the point that metal and stock feels loose I get my nice two stage trigger back. Any suggestions?

There should be a steel tube spacer in the rear action screw hole in the stock. This keeps the trigger guard and action the proper distance apart. Is it there, or has someone cut a bit out of the bedding?

EDIT:Knowticed after I posted that Buffdog beat me to it!!

My first thought was I would suspect that there is something touching the trigger mechanism, perhaps the stock?

But then it hit me, I would check to make sure the rear pilar is there and not too short. If the pillar is too short the trigger assembly may not be engaging the sear correctly once it's tight. That's probably why if you assemble the action screws loose it works but then if you tighten it you may have issues with the engagement of the trigger parts.

Take the rifle apart, and install the trigger guard to the action out of the stock. Insert the front action screw snug. Then measure the distance in between the bottom of the reciever and the top of the trigger guard in between where the rear action screw goes. Then measure the rear pillar in the stock. If you can pop it out and measure it with a micrometer. If the pillar from the stock is quite a bit shorter your action will go together crooked and may cause accuracy/and trigger issues.

Anyhow, that would be my guess on what's going on, although I'm sure someone with WAY more knowledge then me may have a better idea of what the problem is.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks guys for the reply, yes the pillar is embedded into the stock but as far as I remember one of the surfaces is not flash entirely with the wood. It is like being cut under the angle slightly.
I can't check it now which one, top or bottom one, but when I get home tonight I will. When I measure the distance between two tangs for the pillar length should magazine box be flash with bottom of the action?

Yes, they were short. Front pillar about 0.5 and rear one 0.65 +one side cut under the wrong angle. End up rebuilding rear one entirely with tight fit screw, and for the front one ended up using washer. Trigger is back to smooth and silky distinct stages like it used to be.

Thanks all for the contribution. It was right on money.
