I've been using Butche's Bore Shine to get the copper out of some recently purchased Enfields. The blue patches just keep coming, with no end in sight yet!!! Can a guy leave that in the bore overnight to let it soak? This is not the most aggressive, but better than a lot of the stuff out there!! What is your way of cleaning stubborn bores??
Does anyone know where to get Sweets 7.62 Copper remover, not stateside.

I'm almost certain I've seen it at Cabelas, and P&D. Both in Edmonton, there are more places in this part of Ab for sure. I can't specifically remember which ones though. Not sure where you are located.

Just went through this with a couple of older mil-surp based sporter rifles - you will be very impressed how easy Wipe-Out gets it done. Give the barrel a shot - let sit horizontally overnight, run two patches through, couple passes with phosphor brush (not brass!), then another shot and leave sit all day until evening. On a BSA 30-06 built on a Pattern 1917 Enfield, took me five days/night to get white patches coming through. Also, try their challenge test - if you think you have a clean barrel, give it a shot of Wipe Out - let it sit for 3 or 4 hours, then run a patch through it. All my "clean" barrels came out blue... Only needs a 1 second shot or less to fill barrel. One can lasts for many, many barrel treatments.

Wipe Out has an advantage over Sweets in that the residue has an additive that protects the bore from moisture. You don't need to wipe it dry and oil it right away.

Otis O12 MSR cleaner or the copper remover are the best I've seen yet, and I use to use wipeout for years. It's way faster and does a better job. Very similar formula to wipeout just stronger. Even removes brass marks from shell deflectors, or sights after drifting them with a brass punch.

Hitzy, I find Sweets to be just as fast and effective as 012-cu. Not only that but it gets rid of the carbon as well. Often in the old milsurps and even some sporters there will be layers of carbon and copper to dissolve and it overwhelms the amount of solvent that is left in the bore.

Biggest problem with both of them is that they are very aggressive and shouldn't be left in the bore for any length of time. That's where Wipe out comes in. It is slower acting but safe.

Sweets claims it's OK to leave in the bore but with all of the ammonia present, I wouldn't do it or recommend anyone to do it either.

The Ammonia in barrel cleaners will not harm barrel steel. What ammonia can do however is leave the bore dry and clean and susceptible to rust if not oiled. If you think ammonia can harm barrel steel, machine a couple of 'washers' from a barrel, polish the surfaces... wet them with ammonia and wrap them up in saran wrap... check back in a couple of weeks, dry them off, the surfaces will be just as you left them. No pitting, no damage. I have done this test as have others.

I have a Jungle Carbine that was extremely dirty. I used Wipe out overnight for a week to get it clean and it is now clean. I have tested KG12 and it is ten times as effective as Wipe Out. Tested by weighing bullets to .001g and then soaking overnight and weighing again. Only problem is that nothing turns colour so you don't know when it's clean without a bore scope.
