SWFA Scopes

I own 3 of the fixed power SWFA SS and have buddies with multiples more. We've mostly settled on the 6x and 10x. They track well, are durable, quite clear, and the MQ reticle is clean and functional. Most importantly, they track, even after thousands of rounds. Hands down value/performance leader in the segment, IME.

I have a 1-4 Illuminated on my GSR Scout rifle, love it. I also have a 6x Mil Quad on a .223. I would hunt with the 1-4 but not the 6x. The 6x reticle is quite fine and doesn't show up well in dim conditions or on dark objects (like a black bear) But, as said, they track very well and are durable.

I wish there was a dealer in Canada as they ship via courier to Canada and there are brokerage fees, so a very affordable scope turns into a more pricey version.

It's funny, the 6x is one of my favorite for hunting. The 3-9 is nice too, but a lot more expensive. We've messed around comparing them to other scopes, right up until legal light, and never felt it was a huge handicap. Obviously a Leupold 'heavy duplex' performs better at last light, but it lags in other areas.

SWFA has a couple of big sales annually. (~$250USD last year? They included a set of rings, bubble level, and a mag loader.) Usually a group of us get together and buy then, helps to split the shipping/brokerage. Doesn't do anything for our weak dollar though... :( ;)

I seen the fixed 10x at my local range. Glass seemed okay/decent. I obviously never tested the turrets so can’t comment on them.

The only thing that jumped out at me was how small the eye box was. I had to have my head in the perfect position to get a clear sight picture.

I have the SS in fixed 10. Bought it a few years ago, and love it. Did a percision rifle course at Sig Sauer this fall over 3 days where we shot alot and were on the dial for every shot. Always tracked perfectly. Always returned to zero. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Was originally developed for the Navy and to their specs, so very robust.

Here's a few vids on it from Tiborasaurus Rex

I have several of the 20X and a 16X.

They work well. No regrets.

One day there was a lull in the shooting (600 yards) and the two guys beside me were commenting on the fly walking on the target. He said that at first he thought it was a bullet hole.

(I could not see a fly or a bullet hole at 600. At 300, maybe.)

Then the other guy started commenting on the fly, and they were debating whether it was a male or female.

If you buy a SS scope, don't ever take a peak though a Nightforce.

I own 2 SS scopes and love them both. I also owned and sold 16x42 Mil-quad scope that did exactly what it was supposed to and only sold it because I prefer to work with MOA's so I basically replaced it with the same 16x42 but in MOA. These are simple no frills scopes that are very solid built, probably average glass but the internal mechanism is like a tank. They are not meant to be show off scopes but what you dial in shows up on the target and that is why we buy them. One think I've noticed on all of them, they are a bit sensitive on parallax adjustment. A non issue if you are aware of it, just have to watch it, adjust correctly and you'll hit what you aimed for. I will definitely buy another one. The only issue with SWFA, they only ship via UPS to Canada and they shall $$$ rape you as UPS does very well their customers.

I think it depends on how you hunt and your eyes. I don't like a heavy reticle, but I find the SWFA just a little too fine. I think if it was illuminated it would be a different story. In any case you get a whole lot of scope for $300 US. I think I would own more of them if it wasn't for the brokerage fees. Even with the exchange rate they aren't too expensive.

Look at my post because I am also considering it. In Canadian dollars here you have:

If you buy a classic 10 then you will have $400 price + $95 shipping + probably $60 taxes + $30 UPS fees...

UPS is the only carrier they use, $30-$50 more than USPS. The good thing is they use UPS expedite, so the abhorrent, disgusting, notorious brokerage fee is significantly covered.

Also, if you purchase a more expensive one like 10 HD or 3-15, that will be a good deal because everything else remains the same except taxes.

If you live in Alberta then taxes are not a problem.
