Swiss 2010 Shooting festival has started

Hm, is it that long since I left Canada and came back to Switzerland?

The last Schützenfest was in 2005 in my hometown and I just got back from Victoria, right in time for the opening of the 2005 Schützenfest.

I didn't participate because I didn't have a sport shooters license at the time.
Still thinking about participating. I actually left this kind of shooting a long time ago.

Probably the same problem as this years Feldschiessen:

summer started late and we are only having the first real nice and warm days now, so most people don't go to the range, but do something else.

Looks kinda boring - prone shooting at bullseye on a bench?

It's called "target shooting". The rules are 300m ISSF except the equipment rules are slightly different to accomodate Swiss service rifles.

The Swiss Army is the most effective Army in the world, provided the enemy stands exactly 300m away from them.

Practice makes perfect, wish we had more shooting comps like they did maybe we'd make this country citizens great shooters as well I'm sure we'd see a lot of CF personel attending them since they virtually only shoot on their early qualification.

That pretty much is it, yes. There also pistol-matches over 25m and 50m, both .22 lr and 9mm.

Also try showing up with something else then a Kar31, Stgw57, SIG 550 or one of the precision-targetrifles, like an AR15.

@Cybershooter: what the civilian targetshooters do and what a soldier is capable doing after his basic training are now two completly different things.
As a soldier I haven't shot more then 3 times on a 300m-range (not counting the yearly mandatory practise)
