just wondering if any body could give me some input on the quality of the aftermarket swiss arms mags that canada ammo has to offer iam in the market for some 5/30 rounders but no way in hell iam paying 120.00 each for swiss mags. i would like to hear from owners of these not people bashing the china stuff

I haven't had any issues with mine. Then again I haven't really abused them much either. Mainly used them for bench shooting and haven't be dropping or tossing them around.
I have two of the dark amber, rather than the black or light amber ones. My only complaint is the length, I wish they made some the same size as 5/20 rounders.

well ill have a few 5/20 swiss mags for sale once i replace them with 5/30 i will be using this rifle in the us and want full 30 round cap mags when iam down there then just repin before i come back across into canada

Good luck getting it into the US - it's considered a 'machine gun', and hence, not importable - even temporarily.

I have used the Canada Ammo aftermarket SAN mags with no issues. They work, no feeding problems and they fit as well as the original mags. Whether they will last under long term usage I cannot tell you. But, in the meantime I can "conserve" the factory mags and still retain reliability. I agree with canucklehead, ATF will not allow you to import the rifle into the US for any reason as a private citizen. I tried to get my Armalite AR-10 in for a match and said no and it's U.S. made for crying out loud!

I own 10 of the amber ones. No malfunctions from any of them, all work just as designed.

On a side note, two of the magazines came to me pinned incorrectly, holding 6.5 cartridges instead of 5.5, so I had to repin them. (OH NO! THEY COULD HAVE KILLED A BABY!!! :p)

I have put 4000 rounds through my Black Special and have never had one issue with feeding or firing the rifle. Magazines are great in this rifle.

thats messed up that we cant take these into the states guess i will have to bring an ar instead or is there issues with them also

ya i bought a bunch of spare mags for my cz 858 and some would hold 6 god forbid i got caught with them like that so i sent them back for replacement as i did not want a bunch of extra holes in the mags. it would be interesting to see how that would play out in court i imagine the store that sold them like that would be in as much #### as the owner of them

As long as the bbl. is > 15.99999999999" and you have a form 6 no problem at all.

Thats not the issue. The Swiss arms rifles are considered machine guns, as already stated. Similar to why a VZ58 can not be brought into the USA.

This is why they (Swiss arms) aren't available for sale in the US - they can't be imported. There are new 'VZ58' receivers made in the US that use real VZ58 parts, but the receiver is considered a machine gun, so it's not able to enter the country.

Apply on your Form 6NIA and you'll see it get rejected.

Thats pretty funny. The neighbors to the North own Machine guns that nobody in the states can own. ha:

Not really. It's not that they're considered "machine guns", it's that they're considered "non-sporting" firearms, and can't be imported unless they're 922r compliant.

As for bringing an AR in, as long as it's an American made AR, shouldn't be a problem.

OP, if there's "no way in hell" you're paying $120 for a genuine Swiss Arms mag, then the Canada Ammo replicas are really your only option. :)

FYI, I haven't had any issues with my Chinese mags.

You're probably right... I had heard the 'machine gun' line before on here. Either way, you cant bring it in!

Yah, I looked into what I would have to do to make my Swiss Arms importable, and it was crazy... I would have had to butcher the rifle. Remove bayo lug, night sights, and replace 7 major parts with U.S. made ones (so that only 10 parts are non-U.S. made). I'd like to do it some day, would probably require the purchase of a Sig Sauer 556 through an FFL dealer, and the importation (with proper paperwork) of the required parts to make it importable. Even this might not be possible though (I stopped looking into it when I found I'd have to start hacking things off my rifle...).

But I wasn't talking about the SA.

I was responding to the post (which I had quoted to avoid confusion) where the OP asked if there was a problem taking AR's down south.

Remember, RTFQ.
