So I have an Elcan and I'm looking to put it on a Swiss Arms Black Special.

With the "standard" rifle with dioptor sights it appears that a check rest may be required due to the height of the optic. Would this be the same with the Target (flat top) version or can you get a normal check weld with the standard stock due to the potentially lower optic height?

I'm leaning to the standard model because I think I want the tritium night sites although once the optic is on there they are pretty much useless....

Black Special Standard + NEA rail + Aimpoint Micro = optic cowitnessed with the irons with no cheek riser required.

Has to be the NEA rail because it includes an integral aimpoint mount.

Elcan as in C79? It will sit way high even on a flattop. It was made for the C7/AR15 with a straightline stock.

The one magnified combat optic that sits nice and low on an Swiss is the Zeiss ZO 4X30. Other option is an Aimpoint, which will hug the rail as well.

I use an Acog TA11 directly mounted to the SIG Stanag scope mount and I still need the cheeckpiece. This has worked the best for me to get a magnified optic on the standard rifle. Its sleek and the whole unit comes off the rifle when I want to play with irons.

No, a Spectre DR

Ok that one will clear the sight drum on the standard Swiss, however you need to use the cheekpiece. On a flattop, it will sit about 10mm lower but again, its made high for the AR15 family. If it were me I'd sell it and get the Zeiss to put on a flattop.

I have a Flatop CQB and a fullsize Swiss with the diopters and I've tried my SpectreDR on both of them. For the fullsize, with the irons, a cheek rest really does help. I didn't notice any problems on the CQB, but I also slapped an H-1 on it the following week. Gimme a bit and I'll get pics of both of them with the SpectreDR mounted.

Excuse the s**tty cellphone pics.

You'll definately want the riser for the irons model, but it could go either way for the flattop model.

A standard rifle with irons and a B&T rail will give a lower 1/3 co-witness, just an FYI.

Surefire

I have never seen an upper hand guard like that before? Where did you gt it? Do they make it for Standard and CQB length models? Any other details would be great.

thanks

That is a surefire light fore end. Very rare from what I have seen as they don't make it anymore for either size
