So while stripping down my new-to-me Swiss Arms Black Special, I realized I need to remove the Shooting Edge scope rail in order to remove the upper handguard.

But I'll be damned if I can figure out how to do it.

Theres one small screw (allen key) on the left side near the rear sight. After one removes that, what is the next step? I tried pounding on this thing with a wooden dowel, as I thought it was just really tight on the dovetail, but it hasn't budged.

Any suggestions?

WHOAAAA!!! STOPPPP!!!! FOR THE LOVE MAN!!!!

I'm not sure why you think you need to remove the scope rail, but you don't. Unless you know something I don't?

The little screw keeps the rail tight - yes. However, if you look at the 'bolt' that extends into the front of the rear sight - you need to screw it 'into' the rail. It essentially screws OUT to tighten against the rear sight.

Whatever you're doing - stop it!!!! you don't need to remove this rail - EVER.

To remove the rail:

Once the set screw is out of the way, tap the rail towards the rear sight. It's just dovetailed in there (very tightly!).

You would have to remove the rail to change out the handguards. But as suggested, try not to mess with it if you don't have to!

Can't remove the upper handguard if I don't, unless I'm missing something. The forward edge prevents the handguard from sliding up once the lower has been removed.

Also, I figured it was the bolt there, I tried moving it but it wouldn't budge.

What is this TSE rail? Is it different than the KPA or B&T rails? I've owned both, and they work the same way. Can someone post a pic of the TSE rail if it is in fact different?

NO amount of 'tapping' alone will remove a KPA or B&T rail. :)

It's not general cleaning, the last owner apparently didn't clean it at all, except the barrel. There is carbon fouling up all along the gas tube and under the upper handguard. I'm fully breaking down the rifle.

As the manual states, step number 10. Life upper handguard at the rear and remove at the front sight mount.

This is the step I cannot preform due to the rail obstructing the act of lifting the handguard at the rear.

I understand I can remove the gas tube by pressing the pin down and rotating, but I still would like to remove the rail for cleaning purposes, if possible

EDIT A kind member PM'd me and told me the exact process to remove the rail. Thanks for your help!

Also, for those who were questioning my reasoning behind removing the rail. Not only did it need cleaning (the rail's bolt had a tiny bit of rust on it), but I am planning on mounting a different scope mount on it.

Sure is nice seeing that Swiss Crest on the dovetail too :p

Interested in the TSE rail too...

You do not need to remove the scope rail. After removing the lower guard you will find you can push the upper gurd forward farther into the gas block. Once yo've done this you simply lift upwards on the rear of the upper handgarded and it comes free easily and clears the scope rail.

Ive always been able to remove the handguard despite the rail being on. You simply remove the gas piston first, then the handguard will come off. With a little gentle wiggling it will even go on easily as well. Am I the only one?
