Swiss CQB reassembly

Hi,

1) I took my CQB apart today to clean it good and after I reassembled it I was wondering if there is supposed to be a sound when pulling the charging handle back?

The best way I can describe it is the tube that I removed and cleaned has a ribbed finish on the outside, and as I pull the charging handle it makes a brrrrrrrrrt sound. I looked at the tube and there seems to be 1 mark that runs down the side of it and near the front of the tube the line drops on an angle and continues (I guess from the bolt turning when closed?)

Anyway, I don't remember the sound to be as loud as it is - I've disassembled twice now and reassembled but the sound is still there.


2) When installing the gas knob I noticed you can put it in 1 of 2 ways, I believe I have the correct setting now because the gas knob points vertically and can be turned slightly to the right where it locks in place. When looking at the gas tube itself I can see that vertical alignment = small gas aperture, angled alignment = larger gas aperture (for more pressure on a fouled assembly?). Can somoene just confirm that is the correct way for me

Check the SAN sticky at the top of the page. There's a link to CQB manual in .pdf format. Be sure to follow the instructions. Last time I checked it does make a noise but not as described. Be sure to lube it correctly too.
 
Sometimes the big ole return spring makes a "ratchety" noise in my full length Swiss, especially when things are very clean, and all the steel "rings" well.
 
thanks for the replies , i had a look for the pdf but did not find it?

the sound I hear is very specific to the sound of the ribbed tube, as if you took a spoon and ran it down the side. everything else seems to function correctly, the bolt returns, locks, trigger clicks, etc so I think it's back in place correctly - maybe the carbon build up between the valleys on the ribbing made it less noisy before?
 
so from page 7 of that PDF document,

it sounds like item #5 (gas piston) is the sound maker, it slides into #6 (gas tube) and makes the ratcheting sound.

the gas piston itself has a mark going down the side of it as if it was rubbing against something, just not sure if that is normal wear or excessive
 
Re-assembling the gas tube and making sure that valve is properly aligned has to be the most irritating part of maintenace on my fullsize.

Do you recall if you had been firing it with the gas valve in 'regular' mode (in the vertical position) or the alternate/fouled position? Warnings in the manual say it's not really meant to be in the 'fouled position' for long; just until the weapon starts functioning again since it puts extra stress on the weapon. If it's a new rifle I wouldn't expect to be seeing a lot of wear already, except perhaps on the ejection port from the brass being smashed against it.
 
Have taken it apart an rassembled? soemtimes that metal on metal sound of the piston rod riding in the tube with make an unpleasant noise. The piston tube is not real smooth inside.

lol almost broke a window in my house even though I knew about the recoil spring I guess it slipped out of my fingers...what a design!
 
In this day and age, where people sue others for the stupidest reasons, you'd think that SwissArms would sorta kinda like mention that a spring is about to be launched in your general direction. Sorta kinda like, ya know? :eek:

lol - I saw another guy with one shoot it off at the range, I guess we all do it at one point or another :D
