I am looking for some grease for my new K31. It is called "AUTOMATENFETT". There was a gent on Swiss rifles selling it but he is now out of stock. Does anyone know who else might carry it?
Also, Does anyone who lives in Ontario/Hamilton, Burlington or Niagara area know a person that works with woods and refinishes gun stocks?
Thanks for your time.

Dunno about the grease. I have some that came in my Swiss cleaning kit, but honestly I've been using mobile 1 synthetic bearing grease on every center fire pistol and rifle I have, bolt or auto, and so far as I can tell it does the job. I paint it on with a hobby paint brush, wipe off the excess after cycling the action a few times, and I'm done. I doubtlessly use too much, but who gives a toot?

Pick a lube that sticks, and stick with it.

Where oil is needed I use ballistol, for no reason other than I like it, and it's a bit on the thick side.

One of the reasons that many Swiss rifles have scarred butt stocks is that the Swiss Military used Hob Nailed Boots. Their boots also had these nails on the sides, so that during rifle drill or ordinary parade use, the butt stock sometimes came in contact with these nails.

The original Swiss stock finish recipies...

From the Landesmuseum in Zürich.

For walnut, clean the stock first;

30 % Turpentine
30 % Linseed oil
30 % Fruit (wine) vinegar
10 % Bees wax

Fill the mix in a plastic bottle and put that one in hot water (60 degrees celcius) for 15 minutes till the bees wax has dissolved in the mix, apply with a piece of cloth.

And for beech;

45 % Denatured alcohol (high percentage 95%)
45 % Shellac flakes
10 % Parafin-oil (in the US called kerosene).

Get the old shellac layer off with help of fine steelwool and alcohol (95% ).
Apply with a piece of cloth starting at the top;

As for Lubrication of the Swiss Military straight pull rifles, never use OIL.

You should also NOT use AUTOMATENFETT. This is a BLACK grease supplied with a lot of the cleaning kits that is included with the purchase of the K-31 and other rifles. AUTOMATTENFETT was not designed for use with the K-31 but rather for the semi-automatic STG-57 rifle that followed the K-31.

The grease you should use is WAFFENFETT. This is the proper grease for the K-31 and the manually operated Swiss rifles. It is designed to clean the bore, lubricate the moving parts, and even protect the stock.

The cam surfaces of the bolt should be lubricated SPARINGLY. Some of the shooters of these rifles use white lithium grease and a few have found that a good fishing reel grease will work too.

The Waffenfett is extremely hard to find these days, in any quantity.
Swiss Rifles clubs have been using the black Automattenfett since at least the 1990s on their K31s.
Works very well on the metal, just don't get it in you eyes.

Also, be VERY meagre with it. Else you'll end a shooting session looking like the creature from the black lagoon. Lots of shooters here in yUK use Lubriplate, BTW.
