Nice details

Gotta wonder how things would have gone if the Swiss ever did have to fight a war. :D Big on craftsmanship, very short on practical design. Think that and the equivalent SMG were among the most expensive small arms ever built

Grizz

The machining apprenticeship programs were 5 years long.
In other words, newly graduated machinist worked for 5 years for room, board and meals.
Really cuts down on labor costs and the machinists learn well under a strict military inspection program. Literally did not have a life unless they got help from the family for beer money. That from older Swiss machinists I've met.

that's how it used to be, yes. But they are still very complicated and difficult to make.

For mass production, they were too complicated. Same with the SMG's and the heavy machine guns. We were still using the Maxim until the MG51 was introduced in the 50's.

We Swiss have never learned, that sometimes, its necessary to cut back on the quality.
