Switcc barrel rifle?

Most bolt action rifles have threaded on barrels and are switch barrel ready from the factory. A switch barrel rifle simply has another barrel for it that is ready to assemble. Some people just want to save money because they don't want to get another complete rifle. Some people want the barrel to come off with minimal effort such as not having to remove the scope or even the stock. Many love the Savage barrel nut because they can acquire random barrels and headspace at home. A shouldered barrel rifle like almost all others is actually easier once the significantly higher price is paid for the barrel and gunsmith cost to headspace it. The later can be removed and re-installed to the same index scribe without checking headspace because of the shoulder and index scribe. All you would need is the two set up barrels, a rear entry action wrench and a tool to turn/hold the barrel.

Hi there, can anyone please explain the principle of a switch barrel rifle? How are they made, can any rifle be turned into one?

Thanks, Troutseeker

The fast change switch barrels use interrupted threads made by cutting slots in the threaded barrel shanak and receiver ring so that the barrel can be pushed into position and then rotated 60-90 degrees to engage the threads and lock into the receiver. Very cool but expensive and more practical to just buy 2 rifles.
