Switching sight from rifle to rifle

I have two hunting rifles that are best suited (in the conditions I use them) to having a red dot sight (e.g. AimPoint) mounted on them. Currently I simply use one AimPoint sight and switch it from rifle to rifle using the standard mounting system. Other than having to resight my rifle, is there any disadvantage to doing this? Also, does anyone have suggestions for other types of mounts that may make this process easier (rifles are a Browning BLR and X-Bolt).

I don't have the $$$ to buy two AimPoints and simply leave one on each gun.

Put a picatinny rail on both rifles, then a QD mount for your optic. Good rails and a mount should keep your zero from moving around.

It might make moving them around easier, but you would still have to re-zero every time you switched them. Moving an optic from one rifle to another and having a perfect zero for both would be an absolute fluke.

Keep track of how much ammo you burn every time you have to re-zero, and see how long it takes to add up the the cost of a second sight.

The above. After you zero one rifle, you may want to write down the elevation and windage and keep track of what the new settings are for the next rifle. So you can just dial the settings for each rifle. This should help narrow down zeroing between rifles and save you ammo.

Yah, it's not like he's swapping out a $2000 S&B PMII scope. Aimpoints really aren't that expensive. By thhe time you've gone through 200 rounds of good factory ammo, you could have bought a 2nd Aimpoint.

I do this all the time with different optics, my razor hd and aimpro have both been on atleast 6 firearms. The point about cost of ammo is true. I reload and like shooting so I like the idea of buying better optics and re sighting. Generally when they go from one to the next the adjustments stay relativly the same.

Practice makes perfect. Rails and QD mounts. I have read warne are the best. O on one and then right down your 0 on the second. The only bullet cost will be the initial site in.

I own several Sako rifles and have wanted to use a single scope for several of them. I was hoping to use a Leica scope with target knobs to speed zeroing between rifles.

I tried Weaver bases with Warne QD rings, but find it does not work. There are slight variations with how the Weavers sit on each action that make it impossible to move the scope between rifles. I was thinking of trying a rail.

Would anyone know if there is a rail that fits Sako dovetail receivers? If they exist, where can I buy them in Canada?

Thanks
