Switching to 124Gr FP from RN, a few OAL questions.

I have been using 124Gr Frontier RN since I started reloading 9MM. They have been running great and I really liked them, however 1000 was not enough and I should of ordered more.

Marstar and Higginsons are all out of the RN, MilArm has some RN's in but shipping at 25 bucks per 1K does not appeal to me that much. Everyone seems to have lots of the FP's. I am not opposed to getting the flat points but I do hear some issues with seating and chambering properly. I will be using a SIG P226 which has ran all my loads fine.

Just wondering what I need to do with the OAL (since IIRC the FP is shorter than the RN) to get it at the proper length so it works fine with out a KB.

Currently my load is 124Gr CMJ RN with 6.4 GR of HS-6 seated to around 1.110"

I have to seat the FP a little deeper. (1.080)

This is just for one of my guns as the bearing surface of the FP sticks into the rifling and During any Ceasefires or IPSC clear, I have to wrench on the slide to unchamber the round.

I use the FP almost exclusively now.

My guess is your standard 1.100" 6.4gr HS-6 load will run your Sig fine. Maybe work some loads up because you are changing the bullet type, and play with some seating depths. If you are worried about a kB, load your rounds longer, your mags will allow longer cartridges.

I have played with seating depths with Frontier 124gr. FP's (my stock 9mm bullet). With 6.5gr. of HS-6 I have used COL's of 1.125" to 1.163", velocities 1200fps and 1140fps respectively from my G17. I've settled on 1.163" as my standard load as accuracy seems best and the numbers over the chronograph are overall more consistant, plus the 1200fps is a little recoil heavy for a general range load. I've used at least 5K of the Frontier 124gr. FP and have never had one hang up, FTF, FTE, no issues what so ever in my Glock.

I shoot Frontier FP's in .40S&W and in my .45GAP as well, with about 8K downrange without a single problem. I love the FP's, find they feed just as well or better in Glocks as FMJ if reloaded properly. I've used Frontier FP's in all three calibers with over a dozen powders and the bullets all perform great.

Thanks for the info gunshulak. I could order some bullets from Higginsons but today I am heading down to AlSimmions and they carry WestCost (Xtreme) or whatever. 124Gr RN and FP Swaged so they sound pretty good. 37.50 for 500 so I might pick up a few thousand. I hear they are pretty damn good quality.
