Switzers Auction Feb 10, 2022

well, it looks like it wasnt a mistake so i will have to adjust my bids 7% lower.

this was their reply i received today:

There are 4 provinces that don’t participate in the HST. This includes BC, SK, MB, and Quebec. If we are soliciting sales, through advertising, then we are required to register and remit this tax to the various provincial governments. I have included a link to a CFIB article.

If you have any other questions please let us know.
Thank you

Switzer's Auction

When you win an auction it’s like giving the auctioneer a blank cheque so he can spend your money on all the fees involved!

From the link then:

"If a product was bought in your business, the customer pays your jurisdiction’s sales taxes. If a customer asks you to deliver products to a different province or territory, you charge the taxes of the jurisdiction where the product ends up."

I was always getting charged 5% tax. Not sure why they feel that the things must change now? Not that I won anything this time around, but I am going to pay close attention next time for sure. Those fees are quickly adding up and if they will start overcharging on taxes…it may not even be worth trying after all.

Actually the commissions, fees and taxes are all laid out in advance of the auction so no blank cheque. It may be expensive but it's not a blank cheque and participation is voluntary and most enthusiastically participate.
