Bid on a few things at the Switzers Auction a couple weeks ago. I bid online from the comfort of my couch using Proxibid. Was somewhat miffed when I got my items in the mail but also pleasantly surprised.

A 1916 SMLE Lee Enfield III* With all matching numbers (bolt, receiver, barrel and nosecap). The rear sight appears to be a replacement. Along with some old assorted ammo.

Some more detailed pictures of the Lee Enfield (Don't know much about these rifles so feel free to chime in with what you know)

Also behind the rear sight it is marked "HV" then directly below that "SC". There is a fair amount of cosmoline underneath the handguards and the brass disk on the stock is not marked.

I bid on what I thought was 70 rounds of .303 British but when I unpackaged everything it turned out to be 20 rounds of .303 and 50 rounds of 30-30 Winchester....apparently someone at Switzers can't read...

Hope you enjoy and have a good weekend!

Very nice Smle, I have a matching sportered one here that I'm in the process of restoring with a serial no. a couple thousand before yours. Only difference is mine has the old style cocking piece on the bolt. I'm guessing they changed it in 1916?

From what I've read they went to the slatted slab cocking piece in 1916 from the rounded knob...although there are some with the rounded knob as they still had stock to use up
