Well the more reviews I read the more confused I am :(

I need a shotgun to shoot trap a couple times a year and take out hunting, I just sold my O/U and SX2 to upgrade and I dont know witch one to get.

What would you guys recommend for an all around good semi ?

I'm going with a tac ord I sold my m4 for this reason. I want to hunt with it mainly but you know I'm kinda cheap and the m4 was great but a little too short for that application and it was heavy. I've tried the ultimate sporting it was nice. Yea I'm going with the 28 I think but then it doesn't come with the pic rail so maybe the 26 as a compromise

I like the SX3 a lot but think the 2 3/4 inch only chamber may be an issue unless you have access to bismuth or tungsten loads in that size for waterfowl, assuming you hunt waterfowl? My vote is for the Tac Ord as well amongst those choices.

I didnt see it was only 2 3/4 thanks for pointing that out. It sucks that the gun stores around here dont carry any of these semis. Id love to handle them before I buy.

Also Tac Ord doesn't take credit card or else I'd have one by now that you could Handle if you wanted to pay shipping both ways :) there was a dealer that had one or two I can't remember which one. My hunting season got kiboshed so I kind of dropped the whole ordeal for the time being.hopefuly in the spring or of I sell something

I might just send Casey an email, I wonder if they offer mil discount. ( yes im a cheap prick ) ...lol...

They are a few things I dont like, that mag extension is one of them and that huge logo on the side is pretty tacky, It could be way smaller.

Might go and swing a regular Versamax at the gunstore first to see if its as heavy as they say,

Yea he has a mil discount I think police and mil are the main buyers according to the website. Ask if you can get a better deal for two and let me know ? He said he would give me a good deal on an 870 and a versamax when I called but the whole not having real money at the time ....

So im thinking 28" , no mag extension , Small Tac Ord Logo ,Taran tactical Bolt release, and a blacked out bolt. Not a fan of this shiny crap. That would be a great gun for trap and hunting.

I really believe, after seeing and using them all for years, that the A400 has no equal in the shotgun world. It has the softest recoil, is very light, and is very high quality.

The SX3 is out because it's only 2-3/4"

The Benelli is out because it's ported. FYI, if you'd asked Benelli M2 that would made it a tougher choice.

The VersaMax is out because I am less trustful of anything from Remington.

By default I'd take the A400 but would lean toward the Xplor instead of the Xtrema.

I think, out of all of the guns I've bought (Which is only about a dozen or so, but still), I'm the happiest with my A400 Xplor Unico. There's nothing I don't love about it. Well, maybe other than the fact that the gas piston assembly prohibits more than 3 2.75" rounds from fitting in the mag tube, even with the plug removed. But the under side of the feed ramp is so smooth on it that it can be loaded quickly, without scraping up my finger. I hated loading my ex's Browning Maxus for this reason...

Scotty, I believe the A400 Xtreme model has a different piston shape that allows the mag tube to be extended as long as one desires.

I use a standard SX-3 for waterfowl hunting, and it is my loaner gun for trap. I previously owned an A400 and a SBE2, and after shooting skeet and sporting clays with each gun, I shoot the SX-3 best, so that is what I chose to keep. I would go with a 3" chamber model, as they tend to shoot the lighter target loads flawlessly while the 3-1/2" gun that I had, would experience the odd misfeed with some target loads. I wouldn't bother with craptical mods on a gun that is to be used for trap and hunting.

The Tac Ord Versamax blurs the lines a little. With a 28" barrel and without the extended magazine it wouldn't be out of place. Many of the modifications offered by Tac Ord are not uncommon for clay target auto loaders.
