which would you choose, the winchester SX3 3.5" or beretta extrema2 3.5"?
i'll be getting both choked smooth and deer barrels. both are pretty comparable except the extrema is $600 more. SX3 claims to be the fastest shooting, extrema2 claims the softest recoil...hmmm!!

does any one of these jam more than the other, or have more problems in general? has anyone shot both and know truly which one has the softer recoil?

Matt

I havent shot the SX3, but I own an xtreema II with kick-off.
I can say that the Beretta is the oftest recoiling semi I have ever shot (compared to the SBE, 1187, Browning)

As far as performance, I have literally gone from 7/8 #9 trap loads to 3 1/2" maximum goose loads in the same afternoon with no malfunctions whatsoever. The mag on the Xtrema is a big plus, as it has a bypass button on the L side of the reciever. If you are loaded for ducks and a deer steps out? Push the button and pull the cocking handle back. The chambered shell ejects, the action locks open, the shells in the mag stay in the mag. Drop in a slug and push the button again and you are ready to go......beats the hell out of jacking three shells out to put in a different load.

I've shot them both and would (did) choose the X2 K/O. The Xtrema is the softest recoiling autoloader I've used. Plus, as Wrongway mentioned the X2 can handle everything from lite trap loads to heaviest hunting loads.

But you really need to handle each for fit/feel as I still find my X2 to be a big gun compared to my SBEII. While the shims will allow you to fit the gun properly it may still feel big in hand.

one other thing you should look at is that the sx3 has a rust prohibitive coating, thought my benelli was okay, but when i got back from a rainy day hunting there was a slight rust colour in the barrel and on some internals .Thats a brand new m2 slug gun with crio barrel,i dont know if the berreta has a coating finish that is similar but if you hunt nasty weather the sx3 and similar coated guns get the nod from me.i discovered my browning gold 10 gauge has a lot of stainless parts in it

I just went through the same questions. I read lots of forums regarding this issue. Two weeks ago I went to the dealer and looked at the SX3, the Extrema2 and the Benneli super Eagle. I do a little jump shooting and I am 51 now so weight and feel played allot on my decision. I really liked the SX3 so I bought it. The other 2 just did not seem as comfortable to carry and throw up to my shoulder. If you keep reading duck hunting forums you will see all 3 guns have problems. Then you have to ask yourself what are the owners of these guns doing to them? How are the cleaned or not. Any way if it feels and fits you the way you like buy it.
Good luck

oh yeah i never even thought of that. i'll have to research that aspect...i'm usually hunting when it's raining lol

The Xtrema2 has AquaTEK, "All internal and external metallic components are treated for the ultimate in advanced corrosion resistance" (the Benelli's do not have this nor a similar treatment).

well i went and looked at both today. the extrema2, although feeling "bigger and bulkier" then the sx3, fit me much better.

one thing i didn't pay attention to was the safety...where is the safety located on the extrema2? is it easy to flick off with a gloved hand?

matt

The safety is located on the front of the trigger guard....VERY easy to hit with a gloved hand :)

Here's mine :dancingbanana:
