Looking for some thoughts on either of these two Shotguns. Multi-purpose useage, Ducks, Geese, Turkey & some Trap.

I have a chance at an excellent good condition Beretta A301 through a friend. I'd rate it an easy 8.5+/10 in terms of condition and wear. It's marked 30" 2-3/4 F. I know the Full Choke can be bored out to Mod & open up a more rounded unit, but wondering if the 2-3/4" chambering or no steel shot is really going to be a disadvantage?

Or, do I go with a new Winchester SXP in 3 or 3-1/2" and multiple chokes to really add to my versatility and not worry about magnum loads or steel shot compatability? Possibly order/source a 24" barrel later on to have as a Turkey rig is also an option I'm considering with this.

I've seen the SXP has favourable reviews here & online, the Beretta is well a Beretta, I have no concerns going in with its fit, finish, functionality or reliability. I'm not partial to either Semi Vs Pump if that helps.

Cheers

As much as I like the 300 Beretta 300 series ( I still have my A303) the gun you mention would not be ideal for all round use unless you had choke tubes installed and the forcing cone lengthened for steel shot. The price of such work is something you could never get back. I am not familiar with the SXP so I can't comment on it.

you can only use steel for migratory birds.

A lot more flexibility with the pump! Bear in mind that the Beretta likely has chrome plated bores, which makes them much more difficult to rebore. If you're into collecting shotguns (like me), I would compromise and buy both. Otherwise, I would buy the pump.

sup extremely light and cheap made, A300 extremely old design, heavy and hard to find parts for these days. The 300 series has several versions, 300-301-303, all slightly different in the gas system but almost identical.
I would not buy either (although I love berettas), if you are set on the Beretta, I would look for 390 and Up.

Cheers.

Have you looked at SKB shotguns?
SKB used to be made in japan in the 70 and Ithaca imported several of these under the ITHACA brand. Fast forward 30 years SKB still makes shotguns, now in turkey just as many others and the newer versions are getting lots of good reviews in the TRAP and Skeet community in the States. These models are very similar to the new A400 series (Beretta) and Benelli and share similarities in the action, like the rotation bolt lug.

I think this is my next shotgun:
