Can someone tell me what the chokes are on a 16ga sxs. Chokes are 15.9 and 16.3 on 16.5 bores. Is this F/M or M/IC. Thanks for your help.

Measurements seem to be, converted from metric and rounded up, 8 and 39 thousands, which according to the chart I googled, is improved cylinder and improved modified for a 16 ga..
I'd recommend testing patterns to confirm.

Cheers,

Bob

Here is a link to a similar discussion, as well as a table of choke constrictions.

Tell us more about your gun, photos would also be apreciated.

I remember seeing something different for Russian guns, at least. 1mm of choke is Full, 0.5mm of choke is Mod - in their terms. They seem to use the same definition for 10, 12 and 16 ga. Smaller numbers for sub-gauges. I will try to find this table again. It does seem like they are tighter chokes than we are used to thinking of.
I took a bore gauge to my baikal 16ga and certainly 1mm of choke is more than full, but .5 is pretty close to modified. My gun is a little bigger than yours, in having a bore of 17mm, not 16.5 so what I have on the water table is 16/17 and 16.5/17. Hope that doesn't confuse everybody.

charts are fine. but if you want to get the true rate of constiction of your shotgun barrel is to have the bore and muzzle measured with an inside micrometer. i.e. the industry standard for a 12 ga. bore is .729, but i've seen them from .723 to .733. when the muzzle is measured , that demension sutracted from you bore demension gives you the rate of constriction.i.e. bore .729, muzzle .699 r.o.c. = .030 or improved modified.

I dont own this gun but considering making an offer. It is spanish made gun. I dont want one that is choked M/F looking for one that is M/IC. Thanks for the help Iam still a confused but will study the charts.
