SxS and chokes

I highly reccomend skeet and skeet, especially for skeet shooting. I often shoot the same choke both barrells for sporting clays. Most of our targets are about the same 30 ish yards.

If your shooting the birds, ducks or geese at the same distance everytime why would you not use the same chokes. If you want your left barrel for close shots and your right barrel for further out shots go IC in one and MOD in the other.

Its your gun use what you like.

I prefer to choke my SxS's Skeet 1 & Skeet 2. Skeet 2 is a tad more constriction than IC & a tad less than light modified. I feel this works out perfectly for all around work in coverts and fields. been shooting these chokes for 30 years. If your thinking of a side by side for waterfowl, take the gun to a smith and have it checked out for steel or just reload & shoot Bismuth, Nice Shot or Buy factory Kent Tungston Matrix (ouch $) Unless you have a modern SxS with screw in chokes then 99% are not suited for steel>
Cheers, John

The labeling for lead means that is what the constriction is for lead shot so if it's still safe to shoot steel through SOME of them depending on their constriction. As a quick example.
Full lead = NON Steel (though some seem to still shoot steel for a extra full choke constriction but not recommended by 99% of everyone else)
Mod Lead = Full Steel
Imp Cyl = Mod Steel (or close to I believe but will stand corrected if wrong)

So just choke your Baikal Imp Cyl/Mod and go for it. Or order a second set of Chokes from Baikalcanada.com and Choke it Mod/Mod or Imp Cyl/Imp Cyl. If you order the extra chokes order some Skeet chokes for it too if available and save on shipping and you will end up ordering them later. Or use your Semi which has a better POA-POI then the Baikal....Remember the Tree...I do every time I drive Wentworth.

Well I have 2 SxS neither are the same choke or the same gauge 12 Gauge Full/Mod 28 Gauge Mod/Imp Cyl both do what they do great with their fixed chokes so experiment with your chokes and find out what works best for you and USE IT. Guns are all about comfort if something is comfortable and works for you to use.....use it. Good luck and have fun.

Cheers

faux fas

I'm wondering...is it faux pas to have the same choke in both barrel's if you're out goose/duck hunting or shooting skeet/trap? if it is faux pas, why?

Interesting language... a Faux Pas is a "proverbial slip of the tongue" not to do a lot with the shooting end of your shotgun... unless you need to call the Crisis Line... and if you do good luck.. or sorry about your luck...

faux pas can refer to a slip of the tongue, but it is usually referenced to what is acceptable in one culture may not be in another. being the firearms community is is a culture unto it's own, it fits...as there could very well be reason as to why you would have two different chokes screwed in simultaneously that I was unaware of, being a brand new shotgunner, of which I learned today is true. for example, one for short range, one for longer range, which doesn't necessitate a faux pas, but is more a matter of choice and would wisely be dictated by the situation you will be shooting in. :D

In the past when lead was legal for duck/ goose hunting some SXS shotguns were available with full/full chokes. If I remember rightly the Browning BSS was so available.

For skeet shooting skeet/skeet is quite normal in two barrel shotguns.

If I were to ever have a custom 28 gauge double make I think I would go with modified/modified for the chokes.I like the feel of a nice double but also like the modified choke in the 28 gauge for all around use.
