sxs assembly trouble

So I have a Belgian sxs that came to me with the barrel and forestock apart from the receiver. Same as any other, only this s.o.b. I can't get together. The hook part of the barrels won't stay 'hooked' while closing. Don't want to use a lot of force,and there may be something I'm missing. Any ideas?? Mark

Try holding the hinge lever open while you place the barrels into the action, keeping it held until the barrels are seated.

Are the extractors in the out position?
If its a hammerless gun, is the action cocked? Sometimes this helps.
