I have an older Spanish SxS Shotgun. My question is, at the very back of the receiver tang at the top behind the safety there is a post that I'm guessing holds down the tang. Has let go and the tang is slightly lifting out of stock channel. Is this a big job to repair. Or can I attempt to squeeze back in and pein the pin. Any smiths out there have some insight? Thanks

That should be a screw that comes up from the bottom. Remove the trigger guard to get access to the screw head and see if it can be tightened. Sometimes getting the screw started can be a bit of a pain as it has to line up pretty close with the threaded hole in the tang..

Thanks for the help. I will look n see if it is something I can tackle. I see you are from Winnipeg as well. I appreciate your help. OK since u seem to know about these guns, hope I'm not pushing my luck here. The action is a little stiff at the end of opening. Opens fine without forend on. I have cleaned and greased in appropriate spots.

Gunsaholic will direct you well but note IMHO there are no smiths in Manitoba capable of doing good work on SxS. Would love to be proven wrong but have been appalled by some simple work I asked to get done by recommended smiths in Winnipeg. Maybe for other guns but not SxS.

canvasback that is not good. My SxS is not fancy by any means. I still love it, and if needed would pay some to have it repaired. Hopefully won't need to and have the same issue. When I got into hunting, Grouse was the first type of hunting I did. I used a SxS then, but have since given my 1st SxS to my son. Then came upon this deal, for The Spaniard. Had not been shot or cleaned in a good while. I cleaned n lubed it. Took it out and shot some clays. Loved it. Gonna be my new/old SxS for Grouse gun.

loogin, sounds like you can do some of the basic stuff yourself. That's good but be careful about going to far. if you have a real problem that requires a smith, Canada Post becomes your friend. People here can recommend good ones that will not take forever. Hopefully it will be a while before you need one.
