Hey guys,

so I had an interaction with an RCMP officer yesterday while shooting that I thought everyone should be aware of.

I was running a vz58 and sharing a shooting lane with another random guy when the RCMP pulled up. They were fairly polite when checking our licences, though didn't seem to recognize my rifle (shocker, lol).

When they went to check my mags he made a comment about how they legal because they were only 5rds, which is all I had at the time. However I politely corrected him stating that the standard LAR-10 mags and beowulf mags are also legal for use in this rifle. At which point they stiffened up stating that I was mistaken. I reiterated my point and pointed out that it was not only the RCMP who had permitted them but that there was no law stating that you couldn't use a magazine from a different firearm in yours. To which he shortly responded that he had never heard of those mags and anyone found using such magazines in a .556 rifle would be arrested for possession of a prohibited devise.

I did inform him that an arrest and being charged or convicted were all very different things and and that he didn't write laws but only enforced them. To which he again (typical RCMP) stiffened up and repeated himself (not unlike a lefty when you poke holes in their anti-gun theory so they just repeat themselves only louder)

Haven't decided if I'll bring my LAR's or beowulfs up there next time. Part of me wants to as I know I'm right, part of me doesn't because of the hassle.

Anyways, I'd really like to get some feed back/opinions/rants or whatever.

girl be like: why you talk to police?

next time show him the print out on the rcmp letterhead concerning lar mags

it is also you right when arrested to immediately request a supervisor

finally: dont go shooting there...

This is not exactly new. I print out the various decisions, interpretations, and laws (such as safe storage and magazine use) and bring them with me. If it comes up again be polite about it and show them the documentation.

So...back to harassing gun owners. Back up after foul air after High River.

yahhh i shoot next to police officers at abby all the time, i do 15 round mag dumps, nobody bothers me, so...
sylvester road shooters have a bad reputation due to a few leaving a facking mess up there and shooting firearms while drunk and smoking pot

Kind of a normal interaction as far as that area goes. I have even been cautioned elsewhere in regards to the legality of 50 beowulf mags even when using them with the intended rifle and cartridges they were manufactured for. The mere fact we could possibly put 223 rounds in them and use in another rifle that was present was concerning to the CO.

the updated bulletin no longer has LAR mags included on it and have been told my old copy of the bulletin is out of date/void by a LEO recently

It's also your right to request, freedom, keys to the police car, their guns etc. If that works, let us know.

It's quite unfortunate but true. The littering is quite shameful considering were trying to present ourselves as respectful, responsible people. Makes us look bad. But I've never been keen on the gun ranges, just don't like being restricted to only shooting there.

I just had a look and frankly the objective now reads like a blanket of deception. They removed all reference to LAR mags leaving it solely in the hands of the LEO to decide what happens. They painted over the black and white with a little grey. Some will vehemently spew that "it says this so they can't do that" but "they" can do what they want. Not good.

Agreed it's shameful.

I was so tired of seeing the mess people leave behind that our family adopted a policy of taking out more than we go in with.

Before we start shooting we clean up after others and then ourselves when done.

I am sorry, but can you elaborate on that?
Last time I checked, the only right you had when you get arrested is a lawyer.

you can request a supervisor review the charge
you are saying your are doing everything legal and referring to an rcmp bulletin
they are saying you are not
sounds to me like there is a big problem here and someone should check with a supervisor no?

I agree with mike the bike. dont shoot there anymore. I used to only shoot there. its aweful though. There are so many negatives to going shooting there. I swear, someone is going to get shot there some day, and I wont let that be me, my wife, or any of my friends

Mission range is only a few minutes away really. 9am to 9pm. So safe. so easy. The more non fuds that go there, the more we will get over all the fuds complaints. I have only ever had one bad experience there. that was on the rifle range. I have never ever had a bad experience on the pistol range.

as for bush shooting, there are tons more sports. you just need to do some research and bring some maps with you. spend some time exploring this great province of ours and maybe you will shoot a bit at the end of it. It's a beautiful province to explore.
