I'd like to buy a stock and external mags for my SKS, like this: http://www.sksrifle.net/review/tapco-intrafuse-sks-rifle-system-with-bottom-rail---black---great# but don't want to order online. Are there any stores in Ontario that sell these? That is question the first. Question the second is, if I were to drive over the border and buy a stock, are there any special permits/regulations for bringing it back. I mean it is just a stock..but you never know. Thoughts?

"...You can't bring a stock back without a permit..." Certainly not for an SKS. SKS parts are restricted for export by the U.S. government. Requires the U.S. export permit that needs a Canadian import permit for the seller to apply for. Takes several months.
Marstar carries ATI stocks. Starting at $70. Epp's carries 'em too. Along with several other brands.
"...and external mags..." Your rifle been converted to use 'em?

I didn't know that my rifle had to be "converted." It is a 1953 Russian SKS. What converting needs to be done?

Hi. If it doesn't take external mags now, you need the part. Not a big deal. It's just a replacement mag well with a mag. Can be kind of pricey. These guys want $79.99Cdn.

Marstar listed 'em at $34.95. Sold out, of course.

Could I just put the synthetic stock on and keep using the internal mag until the day I am rich and can afford the external one?

The external mags will be cool for about 1 day of shooting, after which, you'll be putting the pan back on. The external mags are a ##### to load up, (slow) and they don't take stripper clips easily in my experience. My buddy who has two tapco mags is putting his pan back on because he sees me pop off 5, reload and pop another 5 before he is done with his first reload.

Plus, this is way ###ier.

Thanks for the advice. I just put the stock on but can't figure out how to put the magazine back on. Everything else is in place but I can't get the magazine to stay in. what the heck am I missing here? Is it simply that I should have put the magazine in BEFORE I put the trigger back in? So I now need to remove the pistol grip, remove the trigger unit, and then put the mag in and place everything back?

Yup, I just took off the pistol grip, trigger assembly, then put the mag in. That works!
