I just received my friend's new Super Varmint in 6.5x55 from the Gunut who sold it to me on the EE, so I took it out yesterday to test it. The first five shots using 142gr Matchkings and R-22 printed a 3/4" group mostly due to the very first shot which opened up the group. This wasn't at all unexpected, as I had just mounted the scope, and I had the action out of the stock to adjust the trigger, so things needed to settle in a bit. My fingers were getting cold for the second group, which also measured right around 3/4". I sat in the truck for a bit to warm up my fingers, and the last five shots went into .470". I was very pleased with the first outing, considering the -10 degree temperatures, the breeze, and the fact that I couldn't seat the bullets anywhere close to the lands, or I would not have had enough case neck holding the bullet. In this case, the magazine length wasn't a problem.

I was so pleased with the rifle, and the chambering, I decided to try and find one for myself. After calling a few dealers, I found a dealer selling the T-3 Varmint Stainless in 6.5x55, for a great price, about $200 less than the going rate at most dealers.Apparently Stoeger is selling this model and chambering off at clearance prices, so the dealers can pass the savings on to the public. If you are looking for an accurate rifle in 6.5x55, now would be a good time to take advantage of the great prices. The dealer still had two of these rifles in stock, after I purchased mine.

What dealer would that be?

Bartons Big Country Outdoors. They had two of those rifles yesterday, after I purchased mine, but several people PM'ed me yesterday for the same information. I expect that those two remaining guns won't last long, but they did say that Stoeger had ten or so left.

I've heard some good things about those T3's. Your report is consistent with what I've heard from others.

I'm thinking of buying a 270 WSM for my deer gun. I just wish the barrel was 24".
