I've been putting together a T/C Pro Hunter in 8X63 Swede. The barrel started off as a boring 30/06 so it got boxed up and shipped to Ron Smith. He worked his magic, and before I knew it Ron had it punched out to 8mm(.323") and rechambered to the not so boring 8X63 Swede. I plan to shoot 200gr. bullets that should have plenty of thump for most any NA game. Here's a couple pictures of it.

Hope to get it out this weekend and see how it shoots.
I'm guessing there are not to many pro hunters chambered for this cartridge:cool:.

Just an update. Had the T/C swede out this weekend. Quite happy with the first few groups. I put a leupold VXII 3-9X50 scope, Mike bellem up grades, over sized hinge pin and spring kit. That took the wobble out of the barrel.
The load was rather tame.Factory brass and primers (1941) 200gr. Nosler accubond 55.5grs IMR4350 @ about 2670fps. Found one of the bullets in the snow,it's on the target.

I'll do more testing to find the sweet load.
I had some hot 180gr. loads @ 3010fps, I backed them off to 2875fps.
This is my favorite cartridge.

Russ, it's pretty safe to say that you're the only person shooting 8X63 Swedish in a T/C Pro Hunter. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice project. The initial tests look promising. How painful was the process to have the barrel done?

Cool... but yeah, strange cartridge choice for the TC, especially a stainless/synthetic TC... as Andy says, you are likely to be the only person in the history (or future) of the world shooting that combo.

I have done more testing and have settled on the old silver 196gr. Norma dual cores. running at 2860fps. 3 shot groups are a 1" or less on my better days.
The 175gr. Sierra pro hunters are just as accurate running 2940fps. Sorry no loads for Barnes.

Getting the barrel done took no time at all. It seems if you have something the peaks Ron's interest it gets done quickly.

I like to have odd ball cartridges....makes for conversation at the camp fire. Will the swede do anything a 30/06 can't do??? No. I did take it moose hunting but chose the 375H&H barrel as I was in grizzly country and felt that if I only have one shot it would give me the best chance at changing a charging bears mind.

I've also got a 7.62X54 barrel that I have not shot much but you don't see many of those either. And I'm working on getting one done in 35 Newton.

I built a 7.62X57 Medium Mauser on a Ruger M77 MKII... 8X57 necked down to .308 with no other changes. It is a nice hunting rifle.
