I have seen a lot of threads in regards to the Tikka T3 Tactical and it's achievements as a precision rifle. I have a Tikka T3 Lite .270 and I was wondering what the feasibility of this rifle is as a precision shooter. Obviously certain mods would help increase its accuracy. Right now it's in stock form, with a Harris bipod, those overly expensive Optilock rings and a Simmons aetec scope. Thanks.

With good handloads and maybe a better scope you should be able to make your T3 shoot very accurately the way it is. The only problem will come when the lightweight barrel heats up. My T3 in 6.5x55 is very accurate until the barrel gets quite hot (after 20 or so rounds without allowing it to cool) and then it starts to throw the rounds wide right. The T3 is a hunting rifle first - if you are going to use a rifle for precision shooting and competitions you should consider something with a heavier barrel. The Tikka Tactical and also the Varmit models have the heavier barrels and are very highly regarded for that type of shooting. That being said there is no reason not to use what you have. Just get lots of trigger time in and see what it does under different conditions. By practising and observing the results I saw the way my rifle throws rounds to the right when it gets hot and compensate as I go. I am saving my pennies and hope to get a heavy barreled Tikka Varmit in 6.5x55 in the near future but meanwhile I will continue to use my T3 Lite for most of my shooting.

in my sierra reloading software, they boast that the .270 has won many competitions. If i recall correctly, they said that the 150gr SBT is the one to use for accuracy at long ranges. I can look it up if you want.
Cheers.

well I know for a fact you don't have alot of aftermarket stock options :)

Are there any aftermarket stocks for the Tikka T3? Ive done a lot of searches on google and it's come up with nothing. All the 'related results' just lead me to sites with stocks for the Rem. 700
