I have recently purchased a "new to me" T3 Varmint and a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 with a 30mm tube. I would like to use Talley one piece rings, but i cannot for the life of me figure out which height to use, either medium or high. No one locally sells them, so i would have to order them in, making an easy return or exchange difficult.

The scope also wears Butter creak flip caps which will add to the outer diameter of the objective of the scope.

I think the Talley medium height would work. What are you guys using?

I have a t3 varmint but with leupold bases and rings in a medium size with 40 mm scope, I do not know if there is a height difference between those and the talley's but I just checked mine and it looks to me it would be either an extremely close fit or would just not work, if no one else here can give a definite answer and returning them would be a pain I'd get the highs to be safe. When I first bought it I put high rings on and it still felt comfortable to use, the cheek rest lifts the head up to compensate for the higher scope height enough that I could still hang my cheek on the stock. Should also mention that the scope is a 3-9 Conquest, so maybe yours is longer and the objective might extent further down the barrel where it starts to slope giving a little more clearance, that could give that little precious extra and make it work with mediums.

You are really really going to like shooting that rifle, they are very accurate
good luck

Hit the toy aisle and grab some play-dough or plastecine. Put 2 nuggets of it on your rifle. Bed your scope in it until it's level and at the appropriate height. Measure the thickness of the play-dough. Determine what your wiggle room is and (objective/barrel and/or bolt knob/eye-piece clearance).

Some manufacturers have detailed specs online, others you may have to call.

That's a good idea. I will have to borrow some of my daughter's play doh. Thanks.
