I'm looking at purchasing another Varmit rifle in either 22-250 or 243. I have narrowed it done to either a Tikka T3 or remington SPS. I have a couple T3's already as well as a couple model sevens in Remington. I don't know much about the sps other then it looks like a 700 action in a no frills stock. My tikkas are very accurate(as are my remingtons) but i am wondering how the sps's are. Does anyone have any experience with them yet?
Thanks
Bill

I have a T-3 in .270 WSM and an SPS in .22-250. The SPS is a 700 action and synthetic stock with a non-fancy finish. The metal work is matte black and and the stock comes with a premium recoil pad. My SPS shoots about as good as I would expect for a $500 rifle. IMHO the T-3 is the nicer finished of the two, with a much smoother action and more easily adjusted trigger. I bought the SPS because it fit my budget at the time and I have no regrets about owning it.

if the extra $$ is of no concern, I'd opt for the T3

I'm not a real fan of the metal finish on the matte SPS

I have owned and shot both and without any hesitation I would pick a Tikka T3.

The only thing the SPS has going for it is the Model 700 action and the recoil pad. I also found my SPS very finiky when finding the proper load and after alot of money spent on bullets and powder I found a consistant moa load.

Of the Three Tikkas I have owned all shot moa with pretty much all the loads I tried.

Cheers!!

There is no doubt about the t-3s shooting ability if they fit the look and pointabiliy, shoulder and apeal to you, There a good bang for the buck, there are better, but not for $700.00

after my trip to texada island with Foxer and company my T3 is my new goto gun, in fact I have been looking at another 1 in a smaller caliber than 300 mag just for those pesky little deer and the accuracy was amazing out of the box

* thanks uncle Doug for the rifle !
