Hi guys,

I just purchased a T3x in 6.5 creedmoor. Now I’m shopping bases, rings and scopes. I’ve read lots of good things about mdt, warne, and mountain tech bases but I haven’t come up with much on using the already built in dovetails. Is one system better than the other? Does anyone have a preference and why?

Thanks

The built in dovetail is better if you can find rings which fit and which have a decent recoil stop. For years, Brno had the same issue; a good integral dovetail but with no good recoil stop and very few rings which would fit.

I’ve got Sako Optilock bases and rings on both my tikka and Sako and they work perfectly fine. 30-06 tikka and 6,5x55 Sako. Get the optilocks if you’re going to use the the dovetail. Or just whack a weaver pic rail on it, it’s drilled and tapped for a pic rail , works just as good as anything else. Only thing with a pic rail is it adds height to the final scope position.

Warne makes rings that fit the dovetail and have a pin that will engage the recoil recess hole. They are less than half the price of Opti Locks, and look decent too. I have a set on both my Tikka hunting rifles.

Difficult to get better than Spuhr one piece mounts. I believe the change in ejection window for the T3X was made to suit the Spuhr mount.
