Here's my report on my post-Nitride, post-McMillan bedding results. All shots fired in semi-auto, no single feed.

This rifle is FANTASTIC! I dialed in the sights at 50 and warmed up with a magazine of XM80 ball. Then I moved out to 100 and dialed in the sights with my 168 grain load to an SR-1 target. The first 5-shots were at 11 o'clock in the 9 and 8 ring. I adjusted the sights for the next 5 rounds and they were all in the 10-ring with 2 in the X-ring.

I then switched to a clean SR-1 target and loaded up a full magazine of the same load and shot a 200-13X!!!! I don't think I've ever shot a 200 before with iron sights! 20 rounds in 2.776"!

After that, I put on my scope and Bradley cheek rest and tried out my 175gr SMK loads. It didn't do to bad at all 10 rounds in 1.425" and another 10 in 2.100". By this time, my eyes were getting tired. We called it a day!

I am glad I did the nitriding and bedding. I'm happy with the performance. I ended up shooting 70 rounds today which brought the round count to 185.

At this point, it's match-ready. I still have to have the gas cylinder unitized somehow and maybe do a trigger job.

Very nice shooting Tony! The groupings can only get better With unitizing and trigger work. I like that barrel stand On your workbench. I Must make one.
Happy shooting.

Nice rifle and group's Tony and a fantastic range reports. Great info on those loads for someone else to use as a benchmark to determine where their rifle is at in the accuracy department. Nice circular groups she's performing very nicely indeed.

Thanks for the feedback, brothers!

I bedded the rifle over the weekend with Marine-Tex. The bedding wasn't perfect, but serviceable. If I was getting paid by someone to do this on their rifle, I would have skim-bedded it to make it perfect. I wanted to see how it would perform with a not-so-perfect bedding job before I go back in and skim-bed it. It's shooting so well, I'm contemplating leaving it alone until accuracy drops off or maybe some time next year.

If anyone copies that 175 grain load; beware! It's a stout load! I made it to match M118LR which is pretty hot. Out of a conventional 22" barrel, those 175's were humming along at about 2610fps. Out of a 22" 5R barrel, they come out around 2655fps. That is a 1000 yard (900 meter) load.

For 600yds, I stay with the 168's. I still have to shoot some 125's and see how they do. I expect good things from it.

Tony.
