T97 cleaning kit (rods) used in a Tavor?

I have to say, the rod quality of the cleaning kit that came with my Tavor was rather sub par. I have a couple of stripped rods already, and so far just use the wire brushes.

The cleaning kit that came with my T97 has held up much better over the years. I lightly tossed a rod from my T97 cleaning kit down my Tavor barrel last night, and it was pretty tight, so I didn't attempt a full pull through.

Given the not so standard nature of the T97 (even though it's the same caliber as the Tavor), does anyone have any experience using the cleaning kit in a Tavor? I want to know before I start pulling swabs through only to find out I have a rod nicely stuck in the barrel.

I have an old CF cleaning kit laying around in my basement somewhere... but I need to dig for it in my storage room..
 
Does the T97 come with the steel cleaning rods like the Norinco CQA does? The steel rods that came with mine went in a metal scrap bin, didn't want to run them down any rifle bore now that we have access to modern fiberglass and brass cleaning rods :cool:
 
I don't know what came with your Norinco CQA, but yes, it came with steel cleaning rods. They are much more durable than the ones that came with my Tavor.

Steel ones came with my Norinco CQA, sure they are durable but I wouldn't even run them down my worst .22.

The OTIS cleaning systems are a great thing, so are the Dewey cleaning rods.

Just googled Otis Cleaning Kit... Why the #### am I still using my issued cleaning kit ?!?!

Ordered the Deluxe Law Enforcement kit, covers all I have.
 
They would be just fine if you slapped some shrink tube on them but that may make them too large for 223. A decent 1 piece cleaning rod would be much better, the norc kit would be good for an emergency kit though, they are very tough, throw a roll of electrical tape in there and they could be used safely in a pinch.
 
The caliber is the same, the barrel steel are harden steel, cleaning rods are mild or stainless steel at best, chances are pretty slim you will damages your barrel from cleaning.

Exactly. I use cable pulls for cleaning, but you can't clear a stuck case with those, or tap out a fouled gas plug. The cleaning kit also has things like scrapers and punches and a sight tool, and it all sits conveniently in your pistol grip.

Because the Army doesn't pay you enough to buy good gear for work? lol. Yeah I think 4 years or so back now i bought one of the Otis 223/308 kits. Been using that for everything from C7 to C6. Now i'm considering getting a kit from Real Avid now that i've got a wider variety of calibers I play with civi side. They have one that covers 22-45 cal. and 20-12 guage.

Unless you are using the cables, or ropes with a metal jag..... You must be certain you are pulling straight as you would hate to damage the crown.

For some reasons, I never really looked into cleaning kit :p

My Otis kit is on its way to me. Wont be using it at work though. I'll keep it for my own firearms
