After completeing both Tac Response rifle courses I have learned the definate advantage of a tac latch on the charging handle. So that being said.... what are the recommendations & anyone know Canadian distributors for these accessories? I tried the Badger Ordnance on "Cool Mike" 's AR and found it comfortable.

Regards,

If you are going for the Badger latch, get the low profile (version 2). The first version sticks out a bit too much in my opinion and can get caught onto your gear.

I think Wolverine is a stocking dealer?

I tried a Badger Ordnance Tac Latch and it did more than just catch on things....it bent my charging handle when I pulled on it to clear a stoppage.
I replaced it with a PRI gasbuster charging handle and it's far superior.

I had the bigger version of the Badger Tac Latch, same issue as above. Twisted my handle and got caught on everything. I am now running the Tac Latch version II. A little smaller, but still allows a knife edge with the left hand during clearing drills.
This will be the one that goes overseas with me. The mutant one that comes on the C7A2 is ridiculous. Way to big for it's purpose. When you bring your weapon in close to your body, the handle catches on the vest (junk as well) and cocks the action. I have seen and done this way too many times. Not the type of thing you want going on at the wrong time. Now if I could just get rid of the ambi-mag release, but that is another story......
YMMV,
Hoddie.

Tac Latch = Junk, you can apply way too much sideways torque on the charging handle and bend it,as well they get caught on everything. The GasBuster is a bit better but then again it doesn't improve the weapon much in my opinion,so is it a necessary expense?. I use the charging handle as designed,it works just fine.

Badger Tac Latches = Crap.:D I had the older version and it got caught on my gear and there is a great risk of bending your charging handle.

Get the PRI "Weenie" Latch, or complete Gas Buster charging handle.

I run the PRI "weenie latch" and the G.B. handle.

I found on my 10.5" shorty, gas would be coming back in my face (especially with the increased back pressure from my Krink). The PRI Gas Buster solved this problem.

The real danger of using an oversized tactical latch on the rifle is that if it catches on equipment and pulls back the bolt carrier even slightly, it can leave the bolt out of battery....this would result in a resounding 'click' when you really needed the rifle to go BANG. Result...one dead soldier with a full mag and a round in the chamber with a tiny dent in the unfired primer.
I find the PRI Gasbuster charging handle to be a little bit beefier than the standard charging handle, it can easily be operated with the left hand only and does not interfere with other equipment. It looks cool too. :D

I'm another that had a Badger and found it crap

Go PRI...

Or... y'could learn to work with the latch that came with the rifle. Just like tens of thousands of soldiers/shooters al over the world.

Just curious, are all your firearms bone stock or "as issued???;)

It's all about making the rifle more comfortable and easier for you to use, and easier to adapt to different eviroments/situations.

Designs can always be improved upon............;)

I've bent a regular charging handle before all of our weapons were switched to the C7A2 so it can happen regardless, granted a tac latch will put more stress on your handle. If your worried about bending a cocking handle then I'd go with the PRI gasbuster charging handle (steel) or use a DPMS steel charging handle and use whatever latch you want.

667, Have you ever seen the weapons that the JTF use? You won't find many with the stock charging handle. Just because a grunt is stuck with a certain piece of kit doesn't mean that it's the best, probably just the cheapest.
