I am going to buy/order a barrel for my rifle and I am stuck between two calibres, this rifle will be used for precision rifle competition so it will be mag fed and shot out to 800y, my decision is between 308 and 260??? I am a relatively new long range shooter and need all the help I can get. I think the heavy for cal bullets in 260 hav a slight advantage in the wind but there is alot of info/suport for the 308, any suggestions to help me out? Eg(twist length)

Unless you'll be shooting in a division that mandates .308, go with .260. Better ballistics, less recoil, Lapua now makes brass, lots of good bullets. You'll want a 1:8 twist for shooting those 139-142g pills. Depending on how 'handy' you want the rifle to be, barrel length is really up to your preference...26" is a good compromise. I ended up going .260AI in a 26" barrel. Figured the velocity I was giving up going down from 30" I'd make up in going to the AI vs the regular .260, and I'd have a handier rifle.
