Folks I'm in the market of my next 1911 and this time it must be black or blued finish. In particular I'm looking for a tactical package with combat night sight chambered in 45 ACP. I need some of advice from owners or previous owners about the following in the order of my preference:

1. Springfield Professional - most desirable but impossible due to custom order and lead time
2. Les Baer Thunder Ranch - same as item 1 above and still have pending order for PII
3. STI Lawman 5.0 - this is the one I'm leaning to as it is readily available locally and very nice package just add mag well and replace the guide rod and plug.
4. Springfield TRP - alternative to item 3 above but already have trophy match from springfield and CAD$ is not doing well as this is available from one of the sponsor in USD$
5. Colt XSE - forged frame and slide but series 80 and no front grip checkering and price close to lawman
6. Kimber Tactical II HD - like the looks but series 80 and not forged steel frame and slide

I like the Wilson but too much for my budget.

Thanks in advance!

Pros are nice but if it's out, it's out so no point commenting further

LB TRs and UTCs (basically the same gun) are easily the best buy in semi-customs...although that's because they skimp on aesthetics

No experience with the Lawman...STIs are popular on this forum but I have seen some that were a real mess. Many do run well and they OUGHT to be able to make a .45 work fine.

The TRP is a good machine and worth about $14-1500. Unfortunately a lot of people in this country think it's worth a lot more. But odds are it'll run well. The two springers and the LB will all be built with the same theory of how to set up a 1911 but the LB will have the most ridiculous fit on the bushing, if you like that kind of thing.

The XSE is a workhorse and I would have no hesitations buying one. They're some of the best 1911s Colt has ever built.

I wouldn't bother with the Kimber.

I mostly shoot an overly tight Baer. Decent gun. Very accurate. Surface finish is at least as durable as magic marker.

Thanks misanthropist, if colt push it a little bit more like front grip checkering then I'm sold on XSE. really like the Baer TR but the waiting time will kill me and you nailed it baer finish is terrible but it has character once the bare steel is starting to show up.

Have a Lawman 5.0 in .45 and I am pretty happy with it. It's run flawless so far. Didn't come with night sites though. It did come with nice tactical style adjustable rear sight (TAS). I replaced the front sight with a FO and put a magwell on it. I also kept the stock guide rod. Very happy with it. I have owned lots of 1911s but nothing else on your list.

Thanks. I'm liking the TAS now. I wonder how it looks with the STI magwell, please post some photos if you don't mind.

You could buy a Springer Pro on Guns America or Gun Broker, and have Irunguns bring it in for you - I've been tempted to do that lately, but I've been tempted to do that with a Mars Thug as well. We'll see at tax time.

Figure out what you want, buy a base gun and send it and all the parts to Roger at Dark. I had a Pro and TRP, Rogers work was better, the gun more reliable and far more accurate. The pro was pure ### though.

I second Les Baer. I am pleased with my Custom Carry, which is similar to the TRS or UTC, but with standard width grips and ambi safety. If you want a more durable finish, Baer can also do coating, albeit at increased price compared to the standard bluing.

NHC Costa 1911

Comes with:
fiber sites
amazing fit and finish.
Accurate
smooth action
Stick on combat beard.

If this this gun were anymore tactical, it would jump out of the truck and perform tactical rolls for you.

One year, or one gun?

Re: The Costa,

You forgot to mention that the combat beard is bullet proof, and has a built in attack dog mode!

I don't own a tactical 1911 but I do have one of those bullet proof beards your talking about.
