I want a fairly cheap gun that I can shoot for fun that won't cost me an arm and leg for ammo.

I have done some research and was going to buy that mossberg 715t but it looks like the magazines are now prohibited because they released some pistol which takes the same mags.

I considered the ruger 10-22 but it seems for the price the remington 597 hb (heavy barrel) is a good deal at $250. It will probably look cool when its done because its got a short 16 inch barrel.

For the stock, the only one I can find is the Archangel kit. Can someone point me to a dealer who sells these kits for around $150. Some people are asking around 200 plus for the kit.

Also if there are any other stock kits for the remington let me know.

thx.

The 597 has a Tactical option aka VTR. I don't think its quite as polished as the SR-22 / Nordic.

You should be able to get a used Nomad stock for $150 on the EE. I think the lowest I've seen for new retail was $170, and that was in the states. You might not have access to the EE based on your post count?

I guess it also depends a bit on your definition of tactical. I think most would agree SR-22, ISSC etc fit into that category. I like to think my Savage TRR-SR with Millet scope is at least on the fringe of being tatical.

A lot of guys seemed to regret buying the 715t even before the mag issue.

as far as aftermarket support, mag availability, quality, and reliability for a semi .22 a 10/22 is really the best non-restricted option. whether you drop the cash on a sr22 or build up a 10/22 with your own choices of parts, youll get it to where you want to go. A polymer stock on a 10/22 will weigh a fraction of what the all aluminum sr22 does.

RIA 10/22 all interchangeable except for barrel. ATI stock scored off the EE. NC Star Red Dot. Magpul AFG 2 off ebay for cheap. Battledyne mags which I am still working on function.

Marlin 795 + Tech Sights + DI Products Trigger & Guard + Promag 25rd mag

I have spent over $1000 on a 10/22 more than once, and for about $300 I much prefer my Marlin! ;)

Don't have pics of mine right now but pulled this off the net....

hi cal sells the archangel ar stock for $189. check the EE might snag a deal if people get there heads out of their asses when it comes to used prices ;)

I've got a 597HB with an arch angel stock, a VQ hammer and extractor and a johnny c14 bolt handle and after I polished the insides and torqued the rods properly, it shoots awesome. I run the Rem. 30rd mags and the stock 10rd ones without issues. I have another that I want to improve, but I'm having a hard time finding a laminate stock, or something like the Blackhawk Axiom, where I can mount my scope right on the receiver instead of a separate rail like the arch angel.

I built up my 1022 over a year with a used 556 Arch Angel stock and a used 10" factory Ruger Challenger barrel really enjoy keeps me with a cheap .22 rf practice ammo option as opposed to 556 with my CAR. I chose the Ruger because of all the part choices and support.
