tactical .308

I looked at the same thing here a few weeks ago. Pondered the choices between the Rem 700P, the Tikka T3 Tactical, and a Rem 700 VS with the HSPrecision stock and a trigger job. (I never looked at the Savage, but no one I talked to mentioned them, and I wasn't CGN yet.) Ended up getting a smoking deal on a new TRG-22 in 308 with a Nightforce 8.5-32 scope. I LOVE THIS THING! Well worth the money, as its the one I wanted in the first place and hopefully will keep for a long time. I think for me it came down to the fact that I got the TRG for a grand more than I could have gotten the T3 Tactical for (told you it was a wicked deal!) Shop around and see what you get for prices and then decide.

I bought the Savage for money reasons. I would love to have spent the money on a Sako. I could not spend the money on one right now - I have to keep a few bucks in the bank in case the non-restricted XCR's show up soon. I am sure the Savage is going to be just fine anyway.

I was originally looking at thee Savage as part of a "budget" tactical rifle. Then I somehow end up bait-and-switch-ing myself from the Bushnell Elite 10x to a Nightforce 3.5-25x56 NXS. Must have been those years working in a gunstore that taught me that trick.

Then I went with the Savage partly for something different, and partly because I loved the stock. Either way I'm completely satisfied with it. The Nightforce sits in NF rings on a Farrell +20 MOA base. It's got a US Optics anti-cant device on it and a Blackhawk Industries cheekpiece. Couldn't ask for more.
