Hey guys, Looking into putting together a tactical lever action. I've been looking at ones done up with all the ranger point precision stuff and I think it would be a fun project with the rest on hold right now. I don't have a ton of experience with lever guns but from the research i've done it seems like marlin is the way to go but they seem to be forever out of stock. Well, the dark series anyway. I'm looking for something in 357. I was looking at a henry big boy x, what's the verdict on those? also I saw S&W just came out with the stealth 1854. Not really sure what way to go, anything I should know or any advice/ recommendations would be much appreciated.
cheers, M

There seems to be plenty of out of the box "tactical" lever rifles available now, so building one from scratch may not be worthwhile depending on your needs/desires. Obviously building one from parts is the most customizable option.

That S&W version looks fairly well thought out for a straightforward version. it's a bit tempting even though I'm not much of a lever guy. But I think I am waiting for the henry Supreme to scratch my lever gun itch.

Marlin and Henry lever actions are usually highly regarded, too.

FWIW I have a Canuck Wrangler in 357 and love the thing. I've had 150 rounds of 357 and 100 rounds of 38 special down the barrel with no issues. Gun was sighted in right out of the box and the action is smooth. I bought the"Jurassic" version and got O'Dell to send me a rail for no charge. They do make a "tacti-cool" version to and the prices are pretty reasonable, especially on sale.

I've got a Henry X in .357. Love it. Super fun.

The Supreme looks awesome. They just launched it and I'm sure in the coming months we'll see a bunch of "tacticool" models come out. Companies like Ranger Point and Midwest Industries will also be all over that one soon with aftermarket parts. I'll probably get one in 223/556 eventually šŸ˜€

Ill put a vote in for Henry
I have a big boy steel 357 and it's great. I've put about 400rnds through it and it's super smooth and accurate. Love it. A never sell rifle for me. A Big Boy X would do you well I'm sure. Cheers

I have a Rossi Triple Black and it has been flawless. In maybe 1000 rounds I've cleaned the thing once and it just keeps chugging along.

I've upgraded mine to full Citadel spec and it looks and functions excellent.

I have a Henry Big Boy X in 357 that I’ve owned for a few years. I have put at least 2000-3000 rounds thru it, mainly 357 mag and a few hundred 38 special without issues. Only thing that I ever noticed was sporadic binding when loading Hornady Leverevolution 357 with the polymer tip thru the loading gate. I think it has something to do with the soft plastic tip in the bullet binding up in the mag tube. My favourite factory load is the Federal Hammer-down 170 gr hollowpoint. Henry is great right out of the box with a super smooth lever and decent trigger. The M-lok and pic rails are great for lights and accessories. I left mine stock except for a vortex viper red dot. I highly recommend the X and with the current BS Trudeau ban on most semi’s, it is a fun range gun and capable deer gun out to 100m. Whatever you get, enjoy.

If you want to build one out then I thing the Henry would be a good starting point. If you want an out of the box version, then the Levtac Citadel is the answer. Another option is the Canuck Wrangler (tactical version). I have the Citadel and it is pretty reliable, I have not had any experience with the wrangler. If it were me, I would probably wait around for the S&W 1854 to come out it 357.

Ruger Built Marlin 45-70 Trapper. pretty much every RPP option is installed. Love the fit and finish of the RPP products and their customer service is excellent.
