Tactical or not?

I currently have a 5x15x50mm Elite 3200 on my .223. I have been wanting to shoot the odd competition with it this summer. I was wondering if having a tactical scope would be worth it. Money is an issue so i would be looking at something like a 5x15x40mm 3200 tactical. I prefer the FOV of the 50mm and the light transmission when varmint huntin in the morning or evening. Just wondering what people feel the pros and cons of going to a tactical scope are vs a 50mm obj. non tactical.

Anyone have any personal experience or some things I need to consider that I may not have thought about?

I love have the tactical knobs on my scope. Everytime I go back to a scope without them and have to adjust it is a pita. Some scope it isnt as much as an issue because the knobs are almost as big as the tactical ones.
