Tactical scope recommendations please

I just bought a Mossberg Tactical .22 and now would like a scope to go with it.
I'll be shooting 50yds max, paper and swinging targets/ target trees. I've been told to stay away from red dots. Reason given was the red dot covers up too much of the target. Also the scope housing itself may cover up the target.
I've also been told to spend good money on a good scope and that I wouldn't regret it!
So I was thinking a low power scope, compact and light weight. The larger the optic the better. 50mm+ More light + better view.
So what do you guys think I should look at?
Price range is $250 max!!!!

here is what I use, it works pretty good. Mind you a little over budget. I would try and find a real nice leupold 3-9 in the EE for $250 max. Lifetime warranty even if its 25 years old, clear glass, light, lots of mag, just doesn't have exposed turrets.

A large objective in a low power isn't all that common, and a large scope even a 3-9 is gonna look a little silly on that gun if you ask me.

Unless you are shooting at night or dusk you really won't notice the difference a 50mm makes, and I wouldn't even consider that a game changer in this situation.

Hey if your bent on a scope go for it but whoever said a red dot covers too much of the target is not really telling it like it is. Red dot with 4moa dot would cover 2 inch's at 50 yards so unless your doing bench rest shooting they are very usefull and more fun then a scope. where you have to get a constant cheek weld to shoot accurately anyways.

I think a Vortex strykefire would serve you very well. It comes with the base so you mount directly to your rail. Lens caps included and lifetime warranty. SFRC sells them 169 + shipping so buy some ammo with your extra 81$. *Edit* It also includes a 2x screw in magnifier.

I just got the Strikefire but haven't had a chance to shoot with it yet. The first thing I'd comment on is that the 2X is pretty useless. With eye relief and then the tunnel effect it doesn't really add that much. So I would use it just as an RDS and forget the doubler.

I've found the same issues as what others have said. With NVS mode I thought the sight was bustola but it was in NVS mode. And the caps are cheesy and hard to snap on and off.

The unit feels solid otherwise. I don't mind the on/off + red to green toggle. Price is certainly nice. The glass is pretty clear and at medium intensity the dot is sharp.

I can't have any other opinions on it until I shoot it.
