Hey guys, I've thinking about building a short tactical autoloader, and have noticed you just dont see many or hear about them. So i wanted to see some pics of anybodys guns and if you guys had any pointers.

Cheers, McLean

Unfortunately, you can't legally go any shorter than a 18.5" barrel on a semiauto shotgun here in Canada, nor can lose much in the way of length at the other end as most semiauto shotgun designs have their recoil spring assemblies running at least 2/3s of the inside length of their buttstocks.

There are some Remington 1100/1187s and Benelli's kicking around with 14" barrels.

Under 18.5" the shotgun becomes restricted. It would also be hard to convert one to a short barrel as you would have to find a factory barrel or one made by a manufacter (read no hacksawing yourself).

also Remington considers the 14" 11-87 "police only" and will not ship them to Canada of civilian sales.

Regardless, US DoS won't allow export of any title 2 firearms unless they're accompanied by a LE or mil end user certificate so the manufacturer's position is moot. Apparently someone purchasing the firearm legitimately is more of a concern than a thug sawing the barrel off.

Duh, I don't know what I was thinking wrt to <18.5" barrles on semi shotguns. :onCrack:

Anyway if it were me I'd start with one of the tactical Benellis and go from there, cheaper or older model semis are kind of hit and miss.

Thanks for all the awesome info guys, im thinkinf i want to make a couple one tactical and one with really nice wood type grips that goes into a leather leg rig kinda madmax.

Im probably gonna start with an 1100, are the short barrels easy to find for those ? Ill have to keep my eyes out for a cheap 1100

Yes that is awesome, but wow expensive !
If I had 2000 right now i would be hard pressed to buy a shotgun id probably get an AR :p

However that is very cool, throw a pistol grip on there and you are good to go.

While pistol grips look cool the remington youth stock is much easier to manipulate.

Yeah I suppose you are right.*

I have a pistol grip on my*Maverick 88 18.5 ( which I bought on a stroke of*genius not relazing you cant get a forend grip for it) and it is fun but useless really.

In the future i want to get a top folding stock for it to give myself a few more options with it. Haven't really looked into it yet but do you guys know if they make top folders compatible with the 88.

I have a Choate top folder on my Mossberg 500 that I don't need anymore. PM me if you're interested.

Damn, yes i would say so. I wonder if any auto loaders dont have those parts, this gun is of course not mentto be low on recoil or accurate.

All the autoloaders I have ever played with have the recoil spring in the same spot. No pistol grips available for any of them that I can find.

i've been considering buying a cheap used 11-87 or 1100 and chopping it to 14", getting a +1 ext and running it into the ground .. just to see how it goes.

after the Dynamic shotgun video that was posted, all other shooting be damned! haha i cant think in anything except 12ga now
