Tactical shotguns 'Black Guns'

The post about which category the SKS belonged to (Main Battle Rifle, Milsurp, Hunting Rifles) got me thinking about the Shotgun category.

Should all the trench shotgun, tactical, speed-feed, black-stocked shotgun topics belong under Black Guns, or Shotguns? My thoughts were that Hunting Rifles is hunting rifles, and Shotguns should be hunting shotguns.

I'm sorry but a shotgun is a shotgun and even a tactical shotgun is a shot gun and have no similarities to a black rifle... Except maybe some optics and strangly enough we have an optics forums just for these cases....

Grouse man, I know where you are coming from. It would be nice to have a hunting shotguns forum, even better to have a wingshooting shotgun forum. But where do you draw the line? Is a deer shotgun with a rifled barrel and a scope not a hunting gun? Cannot a short barreled 870 be used to shoot grouse? It is the very versatility of the shotgun which makes pigeon holing it so difficult. In the end, I believe that we all benefit from the (cross cultural?) sharing of information that takes place within the general shotgun forum. The forum is not active enough to warrant sub forums, and it is easy enough to filter through the list of postings. Just my $0.02.

I know where you're coming from Grouseman, since I come in here looking for hunting shotgun threads. But, alas, they are few and far between.

There are lots of points where the various forums overlap but I vote to keep the tactical shotgunners in the shotgun forum. Much of their interest is directly applicable to shotgun deer hunters and those of us who use short pump guns for various predator control functions.

Unlike a large percentage of black rifles, tactical shotguns are, with few exceptions, non-restricted. I don't spend much time in the black rifle forum because while I have nothing against black rifles or the people who own them a restricted long gun is about as useful to me as teets on a bull.

It wasn't an easy decision though. Not keeping them would mean fewer people who say "shottie" (rhymes with "potty") and don't understand that the term "furniture" does not refer to a gun's stock.

Shotguns whether for hunting/sporting or for some tactical purpose are still shotguns in the end. They should stay here. Just my 2 cents.

If you moved the "tactical "shotgun to a special place , when someone asks how to strip a 870 or remove a magazine plug , the same question would be asked again in another area. Presently there is too much repeating of " is a NORINCO GOOD" , "HOW DO I DISASSEMBLE A 1911" FOLLOWED BY " HOW DO I DISASSEMBLE A .45 NORINCO". Some of these questions could be answered by a SEARCH but I have found that the SEARCH SYSTEM HERE is not too user friendly . If we are voting or taking a consensus ,I think it is okay the way it is, and I feel some people are just stirring up crap because someone finally realized a SKS is not a Main Battle RIFLE and moved it , no matter how much fun or how popular they are.

The buzz word of internet gun forum! What is tactical exactly? I've seen adds for tactical pants, tactical stocks, tactical gloves and even tactical ammo...

OK, this gets me thinking... tactical slugs are "reduced" power, so does that mean that people using tactical stuff are not man enough to deal with the real thing?

i think the real question is whether you should sell your tatical shotgun in the 'hunting and sporting arm' section or the 'black rifle' section.
