No plastic stocks and crap like that. Just some subtle yet classy tactical enhancements.

I have done up a Tapco back in the day, and regretted it so here is my new project.

Started like this, after refinishing the stock.

Then picked up a Tapco mag at the range today. Yes it is still plastic but I am not spending 100 bucks on the steel ones, and they are far too long and look ridiculous not to mention they make it impossible to shoot off a bench. This one is just right. ;)

And when I got home from the range my brand new steel hand guard was waiting for me so I through that together, and removed the bayonet and cleaning rod to save the weight which does make a difference. Feels much less front heavy now.

Now I am considering chopping off the bayonet and cleaning rod lugs but not sure I want to. Not sure how it will affect resale, and this is a numbers matching unissed SKS so.......

Anyways I think it looks much nicer than all the plastic stock crap. Like I said I have been there and done that and said if I ever got an SKS again I would keep it pretty standard.

Hope you guys like it. ;)

If a guys gonna complain they might squawk about the refinished stock, just depends what price or what crowd you try and sell it too. That's pretty much what I want to do, I went the same route with the tapco, last night buddy picked mine up and asked if it was supposed to be a lmg or something. You got a nice gun man

Don't worry about it being unissued, you ruined that beautiful stock with your "refinishing". Not worth any more than a Type 56 now, go nuts!

What makes it tactical, the long mag sticking out? Except it has the same capacity as the factory mag, so i don't see the advantage.

I guess the point is that it is not all that tactical.......

Does a collapsible stock make it tactical?

I just wanted to trick out an SKS with a detachable mag, that looked a little different than everyone else. I think I got that.

Please don't chop off the bayo mount. This rifle was around way before you (maybe) and will continue on long after you are gone. I'm all for modding to taste, but at least ensure your mods are reversible. Think about all those poor lee enfields that were "sporterized".

Vented handguard came from Hical.ca.

It uses the original gas tube. The end that locks into the sight/gas block has a pin holding it in place that gets hammered out. The new handguard is fitted(little filing) and then that metal cap is pinned back on.

Really simple mod if you have the tools, namely a vice and the right punch.

The Tapco mag also took some fitting, which basically just involved opening up the magwell slightly for it to fit. Just sanding away some wood is all it took.

Nothing too complicated at all. ;)

Any value to "Unissued" or "All Matching" is completely gone. Should have looked for a 125 dollar special on EE. Its worth the same now.

I don't know when I turned into an old fart fudd, but it happened. Canada is awash in who cares Type 56's and Russian refurbs, and Bubba still picks out the minty ones to "improve".

Very nicely done :) I had all the Tapco crap on mine, but soon got rid of it all except the mag. The wife prefers the feel of the wood.
Mine was a 51 Tula with matching numbers and now its me yard gun and is covered in chicken sh-t... and it goes bang everytime :)

Have you been on the EE lately? People trying to sell used SKS's for more than I paid for this! F that!

And I really could care less about the collector value, but if i ever sell it someone might want to put the Bayo back on.

Obviously after doing these mods, do you think I am gonna say, "Oh damn, did I really hurt it's value? Youre right, I really screwed up."

:jerkit:

Might have to cut the Bayo lug just to piss off you purists.....

Looks good. Would look even better with a timbersmith stock. I personnally like the Tapco stocks, especially since those factory stocks were made for midgets. Lol

Haters gotta hate. :D
