Bought a new Tactical Solutions .22 from a dealer back in January. It was a dog, unreliable and poor accuracy. I tried different ammo, mounts and optics, still a dog. Took it back to the dealer whose gunsmith tested it and agreed with me. They promptly sent it back to the distributor and less than 3 weeks later it came back supposedly with a new receiver and barrel (color was different than original barrrel/receiver). I take it to the range and the very first shot is a malfunction. Between malfunctions I get a 5/8 inch 3 shot group at 50 yards. So I figure accuracy problem is solved, I'll go after reliability when I get a chance. In the meantime I got an Anschutz for precision rimfire and was messing with that all the time. Using the Anschutz, I got first precision rimfire match out of the way (at Woodstock, NB April17). I go back to the Tacsol and take it apart to clean.

I was shocked to find the condition of the extractor groove and area. As the pic shows there are 2 deep peens on the edge of the extractor groove and a peen on the barrel rim, presumably from the firing pin. What could have caused the damage to the extractor groove? And the wear to the anodized face of the barrel? 10-22 style rifle are supposed to have a captured firing pins, AFAIK, so why is there a firing pin mark? Thanks for advice.

Checked my bolt and the firing pin is captured, comes precisely to the bolt face and no further, so the firing pin indent was already there. The peens on the extractor slot could only have come from someone using a hammer and punch, yet the distributor said in writing that the replacement barrel and receiver was brand new.

this is a good lesson, it is worth taking things apart when you get a "brand new" toy to make sure all is in order. When you get what you got, send it back right away. If you don't, you get accused that it was you who caused this damage by dry firing etc etc.

I've worked in QA and Warranty for sport & bicycle industry and this type of service would be completely unacceptable imo. I'd contact the shop & distributor and ask them politely to make it right, if they push back reach out to the manufacturer the same way. In my experience dragging a shop/brand through the mud or getting angry with them makes things worse. On a related note I've shot x-ring's and been very impressed with them. Only issue I ever had was feed issues with lead nose, however they love copper jackets.

Great news. I took it back to the dealer today and showed him the damage you see in the picture. Remember it was the distributor, not him, who claimed the replacement barrel and receiver were new. He refunded my money on the spot, an amount well over $1400 dollars. AFAIK, it is an offense to mention a company by name unless they are advertising on Gunnutz, so I shall refrain accordingly, but his outfit sells many guns in New Brunswick. I guess places like CT or Bass Pro would tell you to take it back to the manufacturer. Good luck with that.
