Bought a new Tactical Solutions .22 from a dealer back in January. It was a dog, unreliable and poor accuracy. I tried different ammo, mounts and optics, still a dog. Took it back to the dealer whose gunsmith tested it and agreed with me. They promptly sent it back to the distributor and less than 3 weeks later it came back supposedly with a new receiver and barrel (color was different than original barrrel/receiver). I take it to the range and the very first shot is a malfunction. Between malfunctions I get a 5/8 inch 3 shot group at 50 yards. So I figure accuracy problem is solved, I'll go after reliability when I get a chance. In the meantime I got an Anschutz for precision rimfire and was messing with that all the time. Using the Anschutz, I got first precision rimfire match out of the way (at Woodstock, NB April17). I go back to the Tacsol and take it apart to clean.
I was shocked to find the condition of the extractor groove and area. As the pic shows there are 2 deep peens on the edge of the extractor groove and a peen on the barrel rim, presumably from the firing pin. What could have caused the damage to the extractor groove? And the wear to the anodized face of the barrel? 10-22 style rifle are supposed to have a captured firing pins, AFAIK, so why is there a firing pin mark? Thanks for advice.
