I have a Tikka T3 rifle, that I plan on using for sitting in a tree stand, and for walking around and pushing the bush. I would like to get a Tactical Style of sling, so I can carry the gun, at a quick "ready" position, so that if I see something moving, or about to move, I can quickly get the gun up, and get a shot off quickly. I am not sure, but maybe a Tactical sling would be best.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good sling like what fits my description? Also, if you know were to buy it, it would be a plus.

Sure, but the answer is not a tactical sling, it called the Safari Ching Sling and can be used as both a carry strap and a shooting sling. They are available from Galco Int'l and go for about $90.

The way the sling works is that it is shaped like a cobra strap, attaching to 1" swivels at either end, but the width widens to 2" and the sling is split lengthwise down the center, with each half being joined by a horse shoe shaped strap which the shooters adjusts for fit. The shooter slings up very quickly simply by pulling the horseshoe strap up on the back of his arm. To carry the sling is simply slung over the shoulder. If the rifle is slung muzzle up, the thumb can be inserted in the loop to keep the rifle in place on the shoulder.

If you simply must have a quality leather military sling, the best available is from Les Tam in Hawaii, just Google Les Tam Slings

Here's some pics of the Galco Safari Ching Sling . . .

Thats a nice sling, but not what I am looking for. I want something that allows you to carry your bolt action rifle, similar as how a soldier carries his M4 carbine. I want to be able to carry my rifle so that the gun is in front of my body, and the barrel is pointing downward. I probably could do this with a regular sling, if I just mounted the sling swivels in different positions, which I may have to do.

I may try to rig something up with some neprene wrap, if I can't buy something though.

What you want is a 3 point sling. I have used one on my heavy barreled bolt gun for a couple of years works well, and with a little work can be made fairly quiet.

The company that I got mine from(in BC) is out of business, or at least not advertising. Too bad. It is a good sling. Also 3 point slings are kind of out of favour as many AR types like a single point. These don't work very well on the heavier rifles though.

Okay, I was'nt sure if it was a 3 point sling or not. I could probably use a regular 2 point sling also I think if I get it to anchor differently to my rifle. If I can find a long enough sling out there, that wraps around the buttstock in some way that will probably work. I will check out the stuff that has been suggested though. Thanks.

If a 3 point sling is what you are after, Wolverine Supply at the top of the page carries Specter Gear Slings. Google Specter Gear to ensure that's what you're after.

Yes this is the type of sling that I think that I need. The only problem that I may encounter, would be how it is attached to the front end, by the barrel. The barrel on my bolt action rifle is free floating, and I don't want anything putting too much presser on the barrel, so that it is no longer free floating. I think that it will be fine though, because once the rifle is shouldered, all of the tension will be taken off of the sling, and it should remain free floating.

Thanks, I think I will order one of these. Good price also. I might check around the local shops first, because now I know what I am looking for, it might be cheaper for me to pick it up personally.

Get one that has strong uncle mikes sling attachments to use your existing sling attachments. Don't tie it to your barrel.

Also, I am not sure what kind of stock you have, but it helps if it is one(H&S, Manners,Mcmillian, etc) that is sturdy up front, and wont flex much under load.

I am putting the sling on a Tikka T3 stainless rifle. I am using this rifle for Dogging, and pushing the bush. Thats why I want this type of sling, so I can walk around with the gun comfortable, but still be ready quickly to get into action.

Saddle ring carbine baby. Does just that, and looks awesome. Although how you would attatch a saddle ring to a bolt gun would be interesting... Maybe attatch it to a rail that a lot of bolt guns seem to be sporting.

Take a look at the Safari Sling at Cabelas. I picked one up. Its great for walking and in a stand. It carries to the font, shoulders really fast and is meant for a hunting rifle. Best part is its 24.99

The problem with good "tactical" slings like the VCAS and VTAC (best two made) is that they are designed to mount to the side of a rifle, which allows it to hang in the verticle position in front of you.

All hunting rifles have the sling swivels located on the bottom which forces the rifles to flip upside down if trying to run it in the style above.

Three point sling are basically obsolete in the tactical side of things but for a hunting application it could work pretty good.

For what you want you need to find is a sling that wraps around a fixed buttstock and around the forearm, and comes off the side of the rifle.

The Blue Force Gear SOC-C with fixed buttstock and forearm adaptor will achieve what you are after.

I think that I am looking for a 3 point tactical sling, that wraps around at each point, so that the rifle stays right side up while I am walking. I looked at a few different ones online, and it looks like they will work. I think that I will bring my rifle in to a gun shop and to try it on for size, just to see if it works before I buy it.

They seem to be pretty cheap also. Around $30 for a 3 point nylon sling.

Heck, maybe it's jsut me, but I'd just use a traditional sling and when I wanted to walk around (expecting a quick snap shot) I'd just take off the sling and carry the rifle in my hands.
