Tactical Vest for IPSC 3 gun

Hiya all,
Newbie question. What are the rules, if any in this matter, for using tactical vests to hold shotshells and rifle mags for the shotgun and rifle course in an IPSC 3 gun match? If it is not allowed, what are good options? :confused:

for rifle ( I would use an ar-15 type rifle), you need lots of mags. I good drop leg mag pouch or Hip pouch would be best. I have seen some guys use the shotgun loading mags (big cylinder), but I just load by hand. I like the rifle competition the best.
 
Technically a tactical vest is not allowed as IPSC has a rule prohibiting Mil/LE gear unless you are Mil/LE. That being said most of the 3 gun matches I have see advertised don’t strictly fallow IPSC rules and some people use vests.
 
There is no "rule" but there is a guideline that states that CAMO and duty gear is "frowned upon". That said it is up to the match director to determine what is go/no go.

IMHO there is no way I would boot someone for wearing a tack vest. Afterall what else are you supposed to use???

After one of EESA's first 3 gun matches ( I think it was our second one) one of the competitors had his nose out of joint over the whole tack vest issue.

He said that tack vests were "against the rules"............I of course differed in my opinion.

Then however he was also complaining about one competitor who used a beaver lumber nail pouch to hold his AR mags!! WTF!

Sorry but you cannot have it both ways!

There are very very few ways of carrying sufficient rifle mags to NOT use a tack vest of other equipment and shoot 3 gun.
 
In our local club matches vests are allowed as long as they are not being used to hold a handgun. We wanted to get away from safety issues regarding shoulder holsters and cross draws.
 
as far as holding AR mags,I just used my safariland handgun mag pouches they are open front and will grab the mags by the rear groove,as long as you don't have to lay down it works great,holds them nice and tight.
 
I see no issues with a Tatical Vest at a 3 gun...as long as it's not cammo :cool:

So is there any type of action event where you load up all 3, then proceed to work your way through the stage engaging targets with whatever is the most apropriate weapon to shoot them with, transitioning back and forth?

Or even, a team type event where you engage targets in a stack?

Not really up to speed on the tack-tickle events, I'm just wondering what is out there.
 
Depends on the club, my club encourages the use of multiple firearms during each stage, on club matches. By the way Medicine Hats next 3 gun match is the 11th June.

Come up and play with us in Petawawa for the Tactical Match (look under events). Carry what you need for the day on you at all times :D

Tac vests and drop leg rigs encouraged.
